I’m sharing my 2025 reading list below in hopes that other men start a book club too. Yes, it is just an excuse for guys to get together, but as fathers and husbands, we don’t schedule routine time to be with friends, laugh, celebrate small wins, talk through hard times, and learn something new.
10-12 of us meet up on the first Sunday of the month around an outdoor fire pit. Everyone shares an update and wins from the month. Monthly updates range from kids learning to ride bikes to challenges with a co-worker. After sharing updates, I tell the group why I selected the book and provide an overview for those who didn’t read it.
Usually 50% of people finished it, 25% didn’t finish, 25% didn’t start. But reading isn’t mandatory; good times are. Invariably, some part of the book triggers a story that is best shared between men around a campfire.
Or part of the book relates to current events, and an honest discussion ensues. In a world of TV soundbites, a fireplace chat with a good friend is priceless.
This tweet is about developing actual connections not just with people in person. Grab the PDF attached and check out the books below. Share the idea with a friend or neighbor.
My ask is that you invite a veteran too.
I barely knew half the guys I invited to my book club—we'd talked for less than 15 minutes. Now I have 10 solid new friends and something to look forward to every month.

@Cappyarmy I have the same problem. I used to be able to manage a radio on each ear and talk with my crew. Now I can’t have a conversation with my wife in my car if my kids are talking in the backseat.
