I think it’s discipline-specific. If a history chair was co-author on a ton of articles out of their remit it would be obvious (and really suspicious?) really quickly.

Its a continuous generational circle jerk of glazing the right professor to get the right access Witnessed it first hand and dont think I have it in me to pursue that path

This is so true. I got bogged down for six months in the peasant studies Marxism arguments and it ended up as like 500 words.

@RezekJoe part of the problem is article/book isn't a stable metric/unit because the amount of time and effort involved varies massively. I have a one paragraph bit in my diss that took me about 6 weeks of time going over paper records, in that same time a philosopher friend wrote 70 pages

@n_hold Sometimes that’s the right answer though! I always tell my students don’t be afraid to say the answer is that it’s really complicated - what I’m interested in is what makes it complicated, how, and why!!

i read steinbeck at 15 bc he was featured in one tree hill. i found daft punk through that pentatonix mashup. i watched a room with a view bc a favorite professors loved it. These are all favorites of mine now. you arent born with cultural knowledge, you have to find it somewhere
