@PhilipBrady3 What you have already combined with what you're planning to build can't be more than 1500m3. So if you had 1200m3 and wanted to build 350m3 you wouldn't qualify for the exemption is my understanding of it.

@WilliamConlon So just to clarify, if you already have 1500m3 of storage then you can't avail of the exemption?

The majority of farm buildings will now see an increase of 50% on the area which can be developed without planning permission (300m²), while up to 1,000m³ of slurry storage can be created with this exemption (subject to a total farm storage of 1,500m³). farmersjournal.ie/planning-exemp…

@johnyraff Yes it will, it's the main reason that the exemptions have been brought in, to tie in with the new slurry storage grant.

@robertburns1982 Yes if you want to get a grant on a slatted tank you need to have full planning approved or an exemption approved - you still have to apply for an exemption. Only benefit is generally a quicker planning approval and less/no objections.

@Mason_Anto Going to be more applicable to a beef farmer doing a shed than a dairy farmer I'd say.

@nomorequangos No and the 1,500m3 limit means that generally for farmers over 120-130 cows they won't be eligible. Can't see too many actually availing of the exemption, majority will still need full planning.

320 cows started up this week on 5 A5s in Co Tipperary. Split into 3 groups for start up. Farmer was well set up with pens and gates to funnel cows. Day 1 all cows milked twice on robots. Day 2 cows were walking into robot themselves and that night even 30 milked themselves

"With effect from 1 October 2028, the slurry storage capacity required per dairy cow will be 0.40m3/cow/week, which is up from the current 0.33m3/cow/week requirement – this is an increase of 21% in storage" - Draft nitrates action plan - farmersjournal.ie/plans-for-incr…

Looks like it's going to be tight for someone to apply to the council for an exemption and have it back in time to apply for the next TAMS deadline of 5th December. agriland.ie/farming-news/p…
