Know about the Leiden (Aanaimangalam) copperplates retrieved by India from Netherlands after many centuries:
> The first copper plate to be discovered on Cholas
> Excavated by Dutch East Indies Company (VOC) during the construction of Fort Vijf Sinnen around 1700
> Brought to the Netherlands in 1712 by a pastor, whose descendants donated it to Leiden University in 1862
> Deciphered in 1886 by Pandit Natesa Sastri and Burgess
> Issued by GOAT king Rajaraja the first
> 21 copper plates held together by a bronze ring with the regal seal
> First 5 plates are in Sanskrit, rest 16 are in Tamil
> Weighs 30kg, and are numbered from plates 2-21
> Mentions the lineage of Cholas starting from Vishnu till Surya, Ikshavaku and then Manu, the king who gave justice to a bereaved cow
> Mentions about Devasura Manthan with Shiva becoming Neelakanta, and the Amrita being distributed to Devas by a Chola king
>Records the historic grant given by Rajaraja to ruler of Sri Vijaya (Indonesia) for constructing a Chulamanivarma Vihara in Aanaimangalam of Nagapattinam district
> Boundaries of the Vihara were determined by the ceremonial circumambulation of a female elephant
>Sanskrit plates were written by Kottaiyur's Ananta Narayanan of Vashishta gotra
> Documents in detail the 41 officials who executed the edict, the artisans who wrote out the words and the sculptors who rendered the inscription
> Poetically states that only Veda Vyasa can truly capture the fully glory of Cholas, but the author is trying his best
> States "As long as the crescent adorned Shiva resides on Kailasha and Vishnu does Yoga Nithirai on Paarkadal, and the earthly lamps Sun and Moon drive darkness away, may the Chola clan protect this Earth"
> In the summer of 2023, the Indian government submitted a request to Leiden University to return the Chola Plates
> The Leiden/Aanaimangalam Chola Plates will now go to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in New Delhi

These two IPS officers refused to vacate their seats although at least 5 newly elected BJP MLAs —including @swapan55 —were standing. Others got up to accommodate them. The woman IPS officer did not even stand up when the PM came on the podium. Should they not be pulled up?

@LiveLawIndia This is very problematic. A senior law officer appearing for Govt of India and for a central government employee is trying to shield a political person who is a minister in the State Government.
SG should know he is not on a payroll of State Govt.

SHOCKING: Outrage in Congress ruled Telangana as an 800-year-old Kakatiya Shiva temple in Warangal's Ashok Nagar is razed for a new govt school project.
The heritage site bore a rare 1231 AD Telugu inscription from Ganapatideva's era.
Congress govt promise to rebuild it stone-by-stone after public backlash.

Justice Sanjay Karol asks about a lawyer, who is not appearing.
"She is MIA," responds a young advocate.
"What is MIA?", asks Justice Karol. The lawyer apologises.
"No, we want to know what it means?" Justice Karol asks.
"Missing In Action."

@ANI Actually he is complicating a simple issue. CM heads Council of Ministers (CoM), which is responsible to Vidhan Sabha.
VS has a fix-term of 5 years after which it automatically dissolves. This means CoM also winds up.
Their dissolution is automatic & requires no intervention.

#WATCH | On West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's "I will not resign, I did not lose" statement, president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Senior Advocate Vikas Singh says, "According to the Constitution, the CM functions under the Doctrine of Pleasure, as far as continuing in office is concerned. We have had situations earlier also where the CM has lost the majority in the House and there have been instances where the Governor has been invited to call upon somebody else to take oath as the new CM, notwithstanding the erstwhile CM refusing to resign. So, that authority the Governor can definitely exercise in a situation like this to invite the leader of the largest party which has been elected to form the new Govt. I don't think Mamata Banerjee will have any right to oppose the formation of the new Govt. It's more of a posturing or a public statement meant to evoke sympathy rather than a constitutional step, although the Governor cannot exercise this Doctrine of Pleasure in normal circumstances when the CM is continuing to have the majority in the assembly. But in a situation like this, which is definitely extraordinary, if the CM says "I will refuse to resign", she can be easily asked to step down and a new person be administered oath and the new party and new person will be in a position to take charge on the basis of the oath administered by the Governor."
English

@gargiMu48960835 India has no dearth of Constitutional Law experts with no understanding of it.
Does she even know that Council of Ministers owe their existence to Legislative Assembly and once it is dissolved CoM also ends. Assembly automatically dissolves sooner it finishes 5 years.
English

Governor can maximum ask Mamata Banerjee to resign, but the Governor can never force her to do so. If Didi does not resign, the Governor can recommend President's rule. In that case, no political party will be able to remain as the ruler in Bengal. Again we have to face election in that case

Lurid Orientalism?
American media often refer to the BJP as “Hindu nationalists,” but rarely describe Republicans as “Christian nationalists,” even as the relationship between the Republican Party and Christian nationalism has shifted from a quiet alliance to a central pillar of the party’s identity and policy agenda. Recent surveys by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) find that a majority of Republicans are now either “adherents” or “sympathizers” of Christian nationalism.
This reluctance to label the GOP “Christian nationalist” reflects Western self-image. To do so would be to acknowledge that the United States is not an “enlightened, secular” state, but one where religious identity is a primary driver of power — much like the systems the West often scrutinizes in the East through Edward Said’s lens of Orientalism.
In the Western imagination, Eastern politics is often cast as inherently religious or tribal.
The media’s reluctance to apply the same labels at home has, in effect, enabled Christian nationalism to grow by allowing it to operate under the ostensibly “neutral” banner of conservatism. This has, ominously, helped fuel racial bigotry. nytimes.com/2026/05/04/wor…
