@onyxicca Absolutely nothing better than feeling super productive, making a thought-out plan and going "Yep, tomorrow I'll start on the best thing ever". Only for tomorrow to come and I have no idea who that guy was and why he was in my house

@GaiusMom I can't tell you how many times I have been reading a book, even now, and midway through I have to put it down and rush to my computer to purchase the next in the series. I did that with the Empyrean series and Vagrant gods. Helped so much knowing I had more to follow it up!

@WintryNook I remember when I was a kid, I had to always have the next library book (or two) available for when I finished a book.

Does anyone else get a cloud of fear when nearing the end of a good book? Double that if it's a series, I'm never ready to say goodbye!

@StevenTBoers63 One thing that helped me when working with a fair amount of important characters is having a page just for me. Where I sat down and wrote out their backstory, motivation, connects and etc No one but me will see it but it really helped in knowing where they should be in scenes!

Writing thought: I'm currently writing a book that has a large cast. It's a challenge to not be overwhelming at times. So far, I think it's going well. I try to keep the characters distinct and give scenes to a few of them, rather than several at once. What do you do?

Rise From the Ashes is a modern day sci-fi with Romance. It follows a young man who was given superpowers by aliens then forced into a deadly competition to determine the fate of the world. It would mean so much to me if you gave it a look! amazon.com/Rise-Ashes-Ner…

Doing these always feels a bit weird, as I am sure a LOT of people can empathize with. But, let's try our hand at it shall we? I have published my first novel. I would really appreciate you checking it out! Details below. #ShamelessSelfPromoMonday

@AnasuaWrites I like to imagine twitter as an ocean, I pop in float around a bit. Wave to some friendly fish and disappear before any sharks appear. No clue about success on this tactic BUT who doesn't like to swim a little?

@_YAReadsNow I love libraries, BUT it's way more fun having a horde of books and calling it my treasure trove. I blame the dragons, terrible influence I fear.

@Saengard I am in the same boat, it was a hard choice but I decided to self publish too. I can't say anything profound but making this account and seeing other Authors is always a pleasure I wish the absolute best for you and can't wait to see your work lining the shelves in the future!!

So why did I self-publish? In large part - a degree of ignorance on how the whole traditional publishing scene works. And, although I had faith that my book was the best I could make it, I wasn't sure if it was something that readers might like. This is my debut book and I just had so many questions that I couldn't wait for answers on. What I knew of the traditional publishing route is that you can receive all kinds of rejection for years and still not know for sure if you don't have the craft down well enough - even if you have a killer concept. I needed feedback. I needed metrics. I needed to know whether my writing was engaging enough, the story interesting enough, the characters fleshed out enough, to be a book that could sit on the shelf with the other published books without being an embarrassment. And overwhelmingly, you guys have told me that it is a really good book and well-written. You all have given me the confidence to keep going (I would have anyway, but would have stepped back to work on the craft more, if that was needed). Now I'm on the treadmill of publishing - When is the next book coming? Will we get more of the characters we've grown attached to? You know, all that great stuff. And now that this book is self-published and part of a series, agents don't really want to look at the book. (I've only half-heartedly queried a couple of agents, but general research tells me this is how it works.) So unless my series gets wildly popular, I'll be self-publishing for the foreseeable future. And if it does get very popular, I'm not sure why I'd want to go traditional publishing - especially if I have the possibility in wider distribution these days as an indie. The amount of control and direct reader feedback is what I feel like I need to keep growing as an author. So that's probably we're I'll be for a while. 😁

You know I used to have such a moral dilemma with this as a kid. I loved doing every quest thrown in my general direction. But I felt so torn between finding a horse's favorite plant in the woods or saving the king who was going to implode in *five* days.

I have to admit, I am terrible at watching shows. I have a fear that with TV shows it's common for it to never get an ending or never try for a good ending. Too many of today's media want to drag out stories for eternity. As painful as it is, every night must have it's dawn.
