We should be gradually returning to our 0.7 per cent commitment on aid and the genuine international leadership that gave us – not leaving it until 2024, says Andrew Mitchell conservativehome.com/platform/2021/…

The same newspapers aghast at the situation in Afghanistan frequently called for the aid budget to be cut, and guess what it was; aid to Afghanistan was cut by 78%. You can’t support a country through military intervention or aid alone. We have deserted them.

UK Gov has had plenty of warnings and opportunities to act lawfully on international aid. The Foreign Secretary told @HouseofCommons on 26 Nov that he would be legally challenged if he didn’t propose new legislation. He was right. @ippf is going to court @BBCJLandale reports

@BBCPolitics It's great to see that more people realise and agree that this is the right thing to do, and are hoping that the aid cuts will revert back to 0.7%.

I have seen first hand the power of UK Development. The 0.7% not only protects us at home, it also helps millions abroad. I will be voting against the Govt this afternoon. Returning the 0.7% is as much about Global Britain as trade, defence and diplomacy.

This is a vote on the definition of GLOBAL BRITAIN… our place, role and reputation in the world. With threats increasing let’s have the political courage to invest in our soft power and lead.

This is such an important vote and what happens today will impact so many vulnerable communities. The government need to decide to return #UKAid to 0.7% to ensure we’re able to support as many people as we can.
ONE UK@ONEintheUK

It's decision time for #UKAid. Today, MPs will have a say on whether the UK returns to the 0.7% target again in 2022. Returning will mean: - 410,000 additional girls going to school - 5 million additional children inoculated - 300,000 more people supported with jobs
