Across the world, vital work towards improving women’s rights is stalling. We must not allow the progress made over the last century to be undermined.

Today we're highlighting the consequences of the PM's decision to slash the International development aid budget. @Keir_Starmer's aid cuts will kill. 600,000 fewer lives will be saved. That’s nearly the entire population of Glasgow, gone. #StopTheCuts #CutsThatKill

The @CommonsIDC scrutinised the FCDO's approach to value for money. @AndrewmitchMP, former Deputy Foreign Secretary and Minister for Development, said he was “horrified” and called the cuts an “error of judgment”.

This is what a race to the bottom looks like. First the US slashes aid, then the UK follows with a 40% cut. Now a senior German leader has used Keir Starmer's decision as reason to cut German aid. Labour's aid cuts are inspiring others to slash their budgets. #StopTheCuts

It is with sadness that I have had to tender my resignation as Minister for International Development and for Women and Equalities. While I disagree with the ODA decision, I continue to support the government and its determination to deliver the change our country needs.

The government’s decision to cut aid to unprecedentedly low levels is short-sighted and damaging. Increasing defence spending is right, but doing so at the expense of health and security risks to the UK, on the backs of the world’s poorest is, plain and simply, wrong.
