@ChefGruel The same thing happened with beef cattle, asparagus, safflower, sugar beets, etc. etc. Farmers can’t truck their products to processors that don’t exist. If someone takes over the plant - that’s a solution. Beyond that, what can be done? Too many for you-pick enterprises.

@thamrod @ChefGruel maybe this isn't the best way to distribute resources, because i do not believe that people want peaches any less than they did last year and every year before that

It’s economics. The contracted company is now bankrupt. Farmers/growers who were growing for Del Monte now have to move on to a product that they can both produce and sell with their limited assets (land and water) in order to survive. Think about the timeline to produce a wanted farm product…It’s not a wanted grower activity.

@MaraMellits @BostonGlobe “yet a majority buy themselves a small treat, such as a pastry, coffee, or sweet, at least once a week” did you really mean to put that in? I understand if it was a placeholder or something, like you meant to write something less enraging but didn't have time

@nickhasthoughts in 1978 Seattle used an updated sprinkler code to evict thousands of transients from the old hotels on 1st Ave after their first plan to demolish the buildings fell through, they're aware on some level

@land_planarian i thought it was the lead-acetate in the wine that got em, wine leaches lead, especially when boiled with it like they were doing, a lot more than neutral-pH drinking water does

Now is the time of Monster Energy Drink
Lmao our society is so cooked, future historians will talk about this as our equivalent of Rome's lead-lined aqueducts

@itsdrenthe now we can smoke without gusts~ one, this doesn't look like a particularly precious piece of architecture for an egregious expansion of air-conditioned square footage, secondly, if it were it'd be cute. And also very susceptible to hilarious incidents.

@DevonDelaitreII oh what could have happened GM sold a hundred million cars in the nineties, oh they crushed em all? specifically poisoned their engines with caustic soda one by one so their parts couldn't even be used? i see. Oh you're not exaggerating it actually happened like that?

@DevonDelaitreII also you know what young people who want to own a vehicle do? They buy a stalwart junker with parts available off the shelf for a thousand bucks. Yep, just find an old Buick with that 3800 you could fix that by taping teaspoons together—oh what's that? there's none left?

@HarpyFeathers i've seen this, it's a clickbait title. They at least say we're certain we're the first civilization on Earth in the first fifteen seconds. You gotta do stuff like this to get anyone to watch your video.

@vickivangirl i too find it very comforting. Also fun to watch with binoculars from the back porch. Tho it made listening to talk radio quietly a little annoying It was always a little eerie when weather caused them to route planes from the south only for a few hours.
