Europeans still misunderstand this argument. There are ~192 wide receivers in the NFL. These guys are 6+ feet tall, fast, strong, quick feet, powerful jump, great reflexes, elite positioning, spatial IQ etc. We’re not saying if you gave them a soccer ball today they’d outscore Haaland. But if you gave those 192 NFL receivers a ball at their feet instead of in their hands at 5 years old, and you trained them to be strikers with the same intensity that took them to the NFL? I promise you’d have at least one elite number 9 among the bunch.
T@tdgator9

Haaland is what Americans mean when we say our bigger, stronger, faster athletes play other sports instead of soccer but if they focused on it they’d be elite.

@CoachGavM Thats all good,it's an oppertunity. But do they get the same attention and benefits of those that pay astronomical fees? Are Mum/Dad qualified to coach or do they facilitate? The other side of it is culture. I'd imagine many boys and girls aren't out on the street playing.

@Woodhead85 Agreed. There are thousands upon thousands of kids playing free or very low cost here through local programs with volunteer coaches (mom/dad).

Every time the USMNT falls short, the conversation goes straight to pay-to-play. I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately, and I keep coming back to the same question. If youth soccer became completely FREE tomorrow, would we automatically develop better players? I don’t think so. Would we suddenly have better coaches? Would coach development become more meaningful, or would we still treat licensing as a box to tick? Would training environments improve? Would leagues, clubs, and tournaments suddenly align around what we say is best for children? I don’t think any of that changes. What develops players isn’t simply getting them into the game. It’s what they experience once they’re there. The environment. The coaching. The standards. The decisions adults make every single day. So maybe the question isn’t just who pays. Maybe it’s whether we’re creating environments that actually help children become better players. Because that’s the part of the system we can choose to improve.

@CoachGavM Possibly not. But my point is it doesn't take much to put on a session and get kids playing. No one left behind

The United States has won more Olympic gold medals than any other country in history, we are the best at sports in the world by far. We don’t even send our average players to compete in soccer but if we wanted to, we’d become the best in the world within five years and never lose a match after that.
Evan@hubyszn

The USA is embarrassingly bad at soccer considering how massive of a country they are. Like how do you have that many people and yet are still straight buns at the most popular sport in the world. Brutal look

@kieronbutton17 Lack of knowledge, lack of pure love for the game and lack of parents, adults that truely get it. Once that happens and you move away from this academy, pay to play process that eliminates so many kids...they'll be a force. At the minute its growing but slowly.

Everyone keeps blaming the pay-to-play system for why the US doesn’t develop enough elite talent. It’s definitely part of the problem. But the real issue is Culture. A proper football/soccer culture is everything. We have small pockets of it in the States, but nowhere near enough. Until soccer becomes part of the fabric of everyday life (not just something you pay for on weekends), we’ll keep falling short. And it starts at the bottom: we desperately need better coaches at the youth level, coaches who actually develop foundational skills and, more importantly, make kids fall in love with the game. What do you think is the biggest thing holding American soccer back? 👇🏼

Cannot wait for him to eventually come and play for Leeds late in his career, take hardly any touches and just blooter it into the net whenever it comes near him.

Forest are 95% safe imo, the form they are in and the football they are playing just shows they have stepped up at the right time. They are not going down unless it goes drastically downhill. Leeds are very close to safety, however can never trust anything till the final whistle so its like 95% there. Spurs are now playing well considering pretty much the whole team is injured which is impressive, though tough test next week for them as they play Leeds who are so far on a run of 6 games unbeaten in the prem. West Ham, tough fixture for them as they play Arsenal who would want to wrap up the league after watching the City game against Everton. If West Ham lose to Arsenal, Leeds survive this season and its between West Ham and Spurs for Survival, Forest also still mathematically in that battle, however not going to include them as they are too good and also GD is really key as Forest GD is very strong compared to West Ham. Also, cant forget Palace who are 15th, they have a game in hand, however, they have tough fixtures coming up and would not want to be dragged in the relegation fight, but there is still a possibility that they can go down. I cant see them going down so I am going to leave them out of it, but just to point out they are still in the mix. For me West Ham is going down, however that statement could change depending on the result against Arsenal. #lufc #nffc #thfc #whu
