Have just finished @WoollettLisa's hauntingly beautiful book 'Lost to the Sea'. It explores the lost towns and cities off the UK coastline. This one's closest to me here in Suffolk - the once great medieval port of Dunwich, now miles out beneath the North Sea. #BartonBookshelf

Lost to the Sea is out today! For anyone wondering where I went over the years I've been quiet on here, this is a ‘ghost map’ from the book. The paler text shows places lost to the sea and drifting sand, both real and in legend. lisawoollett.co.uk

St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall, where a submerged forest lies beneath the low-tide sands. The trees are 4000-6000 years old and the island’s old Cornish name - Karrek Loos yn Koos - means the ‘Grey Rock in the Wood’. #LostToTheSea

Gorgeously written and perpetually fascinating, LOST TO THE SEA by @WoollettLisa is such a rich and rewarding book. Out on May 9th from @johnmurrays, it’s an absolute beauty and no mistake.

Typeset pages for Lost to the Sea, along with a few sea things picked up along the way – in places that once were land. It’s due out in May and the first time it really feels like a book. Going on last time, it’s also when it becomes something of an emotional rollercoaster.
