🤝 On Day 2 of the AABS Knowledge Exchange Dili 2026, participants visited Atauro Island to see how digital fisheries tools are applied in practice. From data collection to policy decisions, systems like Peskas are making a difference—supported by the people behind the data. 💭 As one delegate reflected: “From yesterday’s Peskas discussions, we’ve seen how much progress Timor-Leste has made from monitoring and policy to marine conservation. It’s truly inspiring.” Supported through AABS and funded by FCDO, these efforts are contributing to stronger fisheries governance, improved data systems, and more resilient coastal communities in Timor-Leste. #AABS #FCDO #TimorLeste #AtauroIsland #Fisheries #DigitalFisheries #SustainableDevelopment #HumanStory #FisheriesData #CommunityEngagement #SustainableFisheries

✅ What difference does training make for fish farmers? A study by WorldFish examines the impact of a farm management training program on aquaculture farmers using minor irrigation ponds in Odisha, India. The findings show that farmers who participated in the training: ✅ Reported higher household income ✅ Obtained a greater share of income from fish farming ✅ Improved monthly consumption expenditure These results highlight how targeted capacity strengthening can contribute to improved livelihoods and more productive aquaculture systems. 📄Full publication here: worldfishcenter.org/publication/im… #AquaticFoods #FoodSystems #BlueEconomy #Aquaculture #FoodSecurity #NutritionSecurity #Livelihoods #ClimateChange #SharedProsperity #Odisha

Last month, WorldFish organized a regional Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) workshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The workshop brought together participants from Mozambique, Nigeria and Tanzania to explore how fisheries and aquaculture can better support women, youth and persons with disabilities. It had four main objectives: 🪝To build a common GEDSI framework for action 🪝Reflect on country-specific challenges and institutional barriers 🪝Co-design national and regional GEDSI priorities 🪝Strengthen cross-country learning and collaboration By working together across countries and sectors, we are laying the groundwork for more resilient and equitable aquatic food systems. @UKinTanzania #UKinTanzania #BritishHighCommission #UKTZ #AquaticFoods #FoodSystems #BlueEconomy #Aquaculture

🐟A national stakeholder workshop was convened last month in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to co-design a Theory of Change for transforming aquatic food systems. The workshop from Feb 17-20 focused strongly on gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI), and reflected on lessons from the AABS project. Together, these conversations are defining the outcomes, partnerships and critical success factors needed to support more inclusive, resilient aquatic food systems in Tanzania. @UKinTanzania #UKinTanzania #BritishHighCommission #UKTZ #AquaticFoods #FoodSystems #BlueEconomy #Aquaculture

🌊 AABS Mozambique: Strengthening Skills and Capacity of Fisheries Data Collectors Sustainable fisheries management depends on reliable, timely data – collected from fishers and enumerators at community level. In Asia–Africa BlueTech Superhighway (AABS), enumerators play a critical role in strengthening fisheries information systems. In Maputo, Mozambique, AABS is supporting the development of fisheries enumerators’ skills and capacity through hands-on training to improve data quality, consistency and its use for evidence-based decision-making. @UKinMozambique is supporting people and their skills through AABS, led by WorldFish, to build a more sustainable, resilient aquatic food systems for coastal communities. 🇧🇩 Bangladesh is exploring Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) as a pathway to climate-resilient aquaculture The South Asian country is testing new ways using a system where species such as fish, shellfish, and seaweed are farmed together so that nutrients are naturally recycled and waste is reduced. With support from the Asia–Africa BlueTech Superhighway initiative by @UKinBangladesh, researchers and farmers are exploring how IMTA: 🐟 Improves productivity 🐟 Strengthens livelihoods 🐟 Build resilience in coastal aquaculture systems Learn more: worldfishcenter.org/updates/bangla… #AquaticFoods #FoodSystems #BlueEconomy #Aquaculture #FoodSecurity #NutritionSecurity #Livelihoods #ClimateChange #UKinBangladesh #Bangladesh #UKBD #BritishHighCommission

This #IWD2026, we recognize the women keeping Kenya’s fish markets running despite supply shortages and rising prices. At Seka Beach market in Homabay County, Mary Atieno Odhiambo says training in fishpond farming could help women strengthen tilapia supply and stabilize their incomes. Through the CASA project, women like Mary are exploring aquaculture as a pathway to stronger markets, reliable fish supply, and better nutrition across Kenya.
