In some Sephardic communities, the Shabbat before Shavuot is called the ‘Shabbat Kallah,’ the Shabbat of the Bride. The giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai – what we celebrate on Shavuot - was seen by the Jewish people as a symbolic marriage between God and the Jewish people. Shabbat Shalom!

The newest report from Israel, “Silenced No More,” documents and confirms the systematic sexual violence committed by invading Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023, and which continued against the hostages in captivity. The report is the result of two years of research and interviews by the Civil Commission on October 7th Crimes by Hamas Against Women and Children, a team of trauma experts, researchers, lawyers, and documenters. Sexual violence happened. It was a brutal violation of human rights. This can never be denied or minimized. These facts need to be known in order to give a voice and respect to the victims. The full report can be accessed here: civilc.org/silenced-no-mo…

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Holocaust survivor Albrecht Weinberg, who lived to the incredible age of 101. Albrecht was a real friend of the WJC and a dedicated supporter of the #WeRemember campaign. May his memory be a blessing. Albrecht Weinberg was born in 1925 in Rhauderfehn, near Leer in Germany. As a teenager, he survived several concentration camps, including Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen, and Mittelbau-Dora, as well as several Death Marches. Most of his family was killed in the Holocaust. After the war, he emigrated to the United States. Weinberg spent years teaching high school students about what he experienced at the hands of the Nazis. “When my generation is not in this world anymore, when we disappear from the world, then the next generation can only read it out of the book,” he said. In his 80s, Weinberg returned to live near his hometown in Germany, where he passed away this week. Photo (C) Wikimedia Commons

WJC’s Special Envoys and Coordinators Combating Antisemitism Forum met in Geneva 🇨🇭 during the WJC Governing Board - at a critical moment for Jewish security. 🙏 We thank them for their commitment to bringing national and multinational tools and responses for protecting Jewish life. Since October 7, 2023, Jewish communities are facing a major crisis. Through SECCA, we are addressing it directly: ▫️ How geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and international debates spill over into Jewish life and negatively impact Jewish communities. ▫️ How Jewish communities can – and must - shape their respective countries’ national responses to antisemitism through direct engagement with their governments. ▫️ Combating antisemitism specifically in North and South America through regional cooperation. ▫️ The role of multilateral institutions such as the UN. Today’s front page. The evidence Hamas filmed itself. A 300-page report, two and a half years in the making, documents the systematic sexual violence of Oct. 7 — much of it broadcast by the terrorists. The deniers have nowhere left to stand. @Jerusalem_Post

Israel in UN/Geneva🇮🇱🇺🇳
Ambassador Daniel Meron was honored to host @WorldJewishCong leaders from Jewish communities around the world. Warm congratulations to the WJC on celebrating its 90th anniversary this week in Geneva!

Israel’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva @AmbMeron hosted WJC leaders from Jewish communities across dozens of countries for a warm evening at his residence. No matter where we come from, what language we speak, or the challenges we face, the bond between the Jewish people and the Israel will never be broken. In moments like these, it is important to come together and remember what unites us.

Ambassador Mike Waltz
Any award to Francesca Albanese only shames those who bestow it. She has rightly been condemned by the U.S. and numerous European countries for her vile antisemitism, illegitimate lawfare, and attempts to undermine the peace efforts in Gaza supported by many Muslim countries.

"I am a Zionist. With all my heart, out of conviction, and with passion." Mathias Döpfner, CEO of @axelspringer, delivered a sweeping and uncompromising address before the WJC Governing Board on Monday, declaring that antisemitism has become a global ideological movement threatening not only Jewish communities, but the future of Western civilization itself.
