Because promotion to the Premier League unlocks £170-300M+ in extra revenue** (TV deals, merit payments, sponsorships, and parachute safety nets) over the next few seasons — far more than any other single match in football. One 90-minute result at Wembley changes a club’s future forever. That’s why it’s called the richest game. 💰⚽

The “richest match” in football isn’t the World Cup final… 👀💰 Winning the Championship playoff final can be worth over £300 MILLION in long-term value — more than most trophies in world football. From the FIFA World Cup to the Premier League title, here are the biggest financial rewards in the game ⚽📈 Which one surprised you the most? 👇

@MavoWorld @Cristiano Exactly! Ronaldo’s ~€200M/year at Al-Nassr beats the World Cup + PL title prize money combined. Football money has levels 🔥

True, spread over years — not instant cash. But the £200-300M+ long-term value is real and accurate. Promotion brings ~£100M+ in year 1 TV money, plus parachute payments if relegated. That's why it's called the richest game in football by BBC, Deloitte etc. Marketing hype? A bit. Transformative impact? Absolutely.

@WorldNumbers20 This is not true. It’s a marketing trick. A club promoted to the Premier League does not get just £100M instantly. The real upfront money is much lower, around £10M. The “huge money” claim comes from adding up 3 years of income, including parachute payments after relegation.

@PierreHudson The £170-300M is mostly future TV cash, but promoted clubs still struggle: PL wages are 3-4x higher, squads need rapid overhauls, and owners push risky short-term spending. The gap is brutal.

@WorldNumbers20 With all that reward, why do Championship clubs struggle on promotion to the top division

Altitude will change the game in 2026 🌍⚽ From sea level to 2,240m at Estadio Azteca — the difference is massive. Thinner air Faster ball speed Faster fatigue Not all stadiums play the same. This World Cup hits different.

Good point — every final is the end of a longer campaign. But that's exactly why it's called the richest single match in football: one result on the day decides £170-300M+ in Premier League revenue. The same logic applies to Champions League finals or World Cup finals too, yet none come close financially.

@WorldNumbers20 This is deceitful. That one match does not fall out of thin air; it’s a culmination of a 46 match season plus 2 playoff semi final matches, then leading to the final. For context, that amount is for playing 49 matches, not winning one match.

@JeffZain362610 Good point! ACLE winner gets ~$10-12M prize money + Club World Cup spot. Solid for Asia, but still well below the top European prizes or Championship playoff value (£170-300M+). Worth adding lower on the graphic. ⚽💰

@OjeniyiR95429 Logic, but it’s not about the number of games—it’s the market value. Promotion unlocks huge TV deals, sponsorships & ads worth £200-300m+
