@king_of_hobbies @tadalper @exQUIZitely You can install a loopback midi driver and pipe the game audio into professional composition software that supports midi input. But then some modern games won't run because you have unsigned drivers installed.

@tadalper @WorldWub @exQUIZitely There are free sound fonts that I have used with VLC to get better MIDI playback. Presumably jury rigging together is not impossible just not something yet done.

I'm so out of touch, I don't even know if PC gamers these days still bother with sound cards... is that still a thing? What I do remember, though, is that the Roland MT-32 was the most unachievable piece of hardware ever back in the day, at least for me.

Dungeon Master's spell system was beyond epic and incredibly innovative for its time. Instead of the common approach (memorizing fixed spell names like "Fireball" or selecting from a menu), it used a rune-based combination system. Spells were created by combining 2 to 4 runes in a specific sequence. The first rune always determined the spell's power level - how strong it was, how long it lasted, and how much mana it cost. The following runes defined the actual effect (for example, fire + wing = fireball). There were separate runes for Wizards (offensive and utility magic) and Priests (healing and protection), but the core mechanic remained the same. I sometimes wonder if this was perhaps a bit "too advanced" for some players, since the more common (and still dominant) spell system has always been the "select spell from spellbook" mechanic.

@Lara102DT In the UK they call them Series 1, Series 2, etc because the BBC didn't stick to the strict one series a year formula like US networks did.

@exQUIZitely Although a lot of people don't realize they only played the shareware version and complain about the "bad ending". Of course it was unsatisfying, you were supposed to buy the full game.

Arguably the biggest impact any shareware program ever had - maybe even all of them combined. Whoever came up with the idea to release the first level of Doom as shareware was a genius. The rest is history...

@CharlieRevillo @papiwontmiss In the UK they keep raising the age that booster seats are required while lowering the age of consent. I predict that in the near future it will become common for girls first sexual experience to take place in a booster seat.

@GregBaldwinIroh That's the thing I never understood. Americans always seem disgusted about the texture of baked beans (which is fair tbh) but then every American also claims to love refried beans??

British blokes…. I’ve purchased several “tins” of Heinz (British) beans because the idea of beans on toast intrigues me. I eagerly anticipate a tasting. Other than toasting bread and heating beans… Are there any other steps/ingredients?

@SandyofCthulhu You can't say it's really easy then give a recipe where brown is a noun instead of an adjective without any explanation.

Let's talk about making gravy from scratch and how difficult it is. Do you have fat or juice from roasting or frying something? Add an equal amount of flour and brown. Then add liquid till thickened. Do you NOT have anything you've roasted or fried? Just use butter and flour and proceed as above. Gravy is just about the easiest recipe in the world to create. I was talking to an English friend about my wife's biscuits & white gravy (she puts a whole pound of sausage in the gravy) and he said, "White gravy? What kind of a package does THAT come in?" And I felt really bad for him. I am sure the comments will have some English people saying that THEY don't use the packaged stuff. At least I hope so because otherwise is unthinkable. Much easier to believe my friend was an outlier.

@fourfingerpod You'll note that you can tell from the photo that a 64 slice stack would be taller than what Homer is holding, so it was uncommon enough that the artists didn't have a good visual reference.

Ethan Brooks@alt_w_v_g

Went to the grocery store this morning Bread, milk, eggs $47.63 The screen asked if I'd like to round up to support a children's hospital I pressed no The cashier looked at me The woman behind me looked at me My wife looked at the ceiling Again This company made $14 billion last year They can round up Went to get gas after The pump asked if I'd like to add $1 to support veterans I support veterans I pressed no A $200 billion oil company asking me to fund their charity while I'm paying $3.89 a gallon That's not philanthropy That's outsourcing Drove through for lunch Taco Bell The screen said "round up for education?" A fast food company asking me to fund scholarships while paying their employees $11 an hour I pressed no My wife said "you know you're arguing with screens today" She was right But the screens started it Went to the pharmacy Picked up a prescription $340 after insurance The screen asked if I'd like to donate $1 to help families in need I just paid $340 for a medication that costs $4 to manufacture And now you want a dollar I pressed no The pharmacist said "it's just a dollar" I said "it's never just a dollar" She didn't respond Got home My wife said "you said no to a children's hospital, veterans, education, and families in need today" I said "no. I said no to four corporations who want me to fund their goodwill so they can put it in their annual report" She was quiet Then she said "you're not wrong" I said "I know" She said "but you're still going to look like a monster" I said "I'd rather look like a monster than quietly fund a billion-dollar company's PR strategy at the register" She didn't disagree But she didn't look at me either Plz fix.
