@mirtagpa @curiousfntsy @hellomura229 *tied as in has to do with the government. Either for or against. Fidesz has only worsened this problem during their time and would've continued to do so.

@mirtagpa @curiousfntsy @hellomura229 It's partially a symptom of Fidesz, partially the current day troubles of democracy and partially the legacy of communism. Most protests that aren't directly tied to the government in some way aren't popular because politics as a concept is walking in fucking baby shoes here.

Partizán's polling among Tisza voters: Do you identify with the left or the right more? Left-wing — 17% Left-leaning — 23% Centrist — 38% Right-leaning — 14% Right-wing — 7%

@mirtagpa @curiousfntsy @hellomura229 Yes, but I'm talking leftists who are informed by western interpretations. Democratic socialists and socdems, progressives and the like. But it doesn't matter how you view these things, you're still gonna be wrong.

@WormBrain117 @curiousfntsy @hellomura229 I live between Italy and Hungary and have been with my Hungarian wife for 26 years... What gets labeled “left” in Hungary is, at best, center-left or just liberalism by Western European standards. The left as we mean it here is a completely different thing.

@mirtagpa @curiousfntsy @hellomura229 Voting is never about getting your favourite perfect party, to some extent it will always be about compromise and lesser evils. If this makes us no longer leftists, then noone is anything politically. Unless you've lived here, you won't get it.

@mirtagpa @curiousfntsy @hellomura229 Like leftists who vote democrat to keep republicans out of power, we voted to dethrone Fidesz, who have made their position practically unshakeable during their time. Any good leftist would've, because their hold on political life was too strong.

@mirtagpa @curiousfntsy @hellomura229 We're talking about voting though, and you're saying they're not really leftist because they "lined up" behind Tisza. You can't judge an investment at the end before you've even made it lmao.

@curiousfntsy @hellomura229 If you actually want to be pragmatic and grounded, wait until the end of the term before drawing conclusions. You judge an investment at the end, not at the beginning. And we know perfectly well how “socialdemocratic” reforms usually end…

I mean for all our problems, political and economic, that's still one of the foundations of democracy.

To me, it seems a bit like this was really a battle of participation vs. neglect and paranoia. I hope Fidesz voters will get a much needed mental kick in the ass, and Tisza voters won't lose the edge they developed for talking and doing politics.

Above all else, I hope hungarians learned their lesson about political participation and its importance. The legacy of communism and the "if life is alright, we don't do politics" mentality has been hanging over us for so long and it's what allows parties like Fidesz to thrive.

@DrachonaTheWolf I engaged with those points the same way you engaged with my original one, but I won't criticize you for your phrasing or imply you wasted time. You walk away with your conclusions, I walk away with mine.

@DrachonaTheWolf And to be clear, at several points during this discussion you have argued the polar opposite of my point, that context doesn't matter, which, while not being the thing that kicked this whole argument off, is not free of its share of hyperbole.

I love seeing people who have no experience with animation or the industry (76% of twitter) talk about animation. Because over half the time they have no clue what they’re talking about and get people with no clue either to agree
