Christians are arrested for silently praying near abortion clinics. Police increasingly police speech while violent criminals walk free. And now the government is reportedly deciding which opinions are “conducive to the public good.” That is not free speech. That is state-approved speech. Before all this, J. D. Vance warned Europe, including the UK, about drifting toward censorship and authoritarianism. Looks like he was right. A country that cannot stop illegal immigration but CAN stop political speech is heading somewhere very dangerous.

Anyone with a genuine interest in promoting the Irish language should distance themselves from Sinn Fein and their fellow travellers. The same could also be said for Irish history and culture in general. Sinn Fein is a party of political agitation. That's their DNA. They have no genuine or sincere interest in peace and reconciliation, or economic prosperity in Northern Ireland, as that would entail promoting things that undermine their stated objective of a united Ireland. A party that in reality is a one trick pony, can't be publicly advocating on a daily basis for a united Ireland whilst at the same time striving to make Northern Ireland successful. Bringing people together by promoting Irish history or language in a positive and inclusive manner is the exact opposite of what a party of agitation would hope to achieve. For instance, they are clearly pushing such things as dual-language street signs, because they know it will annoy people and create opposition and division. The Irish language has been weaponised for political purposes. Anyone with a genuine love of the language who wanted to promote it, attract support, make it inclusive etc, wouldn't take that antagonistic approach. They would reach out to people, perhaps promote the language by explaining it in a historical context and the vital role of Presbyterians in safeguarding the language. Forcing dual-language signs into streets where virtually no-one wants them is not about promoting a language or culture. Sinn Fein is doing it to get a reaction so that they can then criticise the reaction whilst playing the victim-oppressor game. I have a long-standing interest in Irish history but it is despite the best efforts of Sinn Fein to alienate people like me. I decided long ago that I wasn't going to let the merchants of hate and division take intellectual control of the past. Sinn Fein can only succeed if people let them succeed. There's a very simple strategy for countering their propaganda and that is through learning about the past and taking ownership of it. It's either that or let militant Irish Republicanism steal the past and corrupt it by rewriting it to justify the mass murder committed by the IRA. "And you will know the truth and the truth will set you free."
