OTD 1988 Scarborough 0-2 Wrexham 38 years ago today, we made our first ever visit to play Neil Warnock’s Scarborough at their old Athletic Ground on Seamer Road. The hosts were having their first season in the EFL. Kevin Russell and Roger Preece secured a welcome 3 points.

A very Happy 60th Birthday to former Wrexham captain Tony Humes 🎂🎉 Tony made 255 appearances for the Reds across 8 seasons with the club. A proper ‘no-nonsense’ centre half who was hugely inspirational in our promotion in 1992/93 and also our fantastic FA Cup run in 1996/97.

#WrexhamAnderlecht50 Rob Rensenbrink - the Dutch forward who broke the hearts of Wrexham with a goal at The Racecourse 50 years ago tonight. He was second only to Franz Beckenbauer in the Ballon D’or that season and played for Holland in two World Cup Finals in 1974 and 1978.

The lineups and programme from our famous European Cup Winners Cup quarter final tie 50 years ago today. Anderlecht boasted some top European stars of the day, but Wrexham gave them a stern test over the two legs. The programme cover was designed by goalkeeper Brian Lloyd.

In our home game against Swansea City last week, Max Cleworth made his 150th league appearance for Wrexham AFC. He is the 86th player to ever achieve this landmark total with the club and the first since Luke Young in May 2022.

A random photo from a random year. Mickey Thomas of Wales and Soviet Union forward Oleg Blokhin battle for the ball in a World Cup Qualifier at The Racecourse, Wrexham in May 1981. Blokhin is regarded by many as USSR’s greatest ever player and he won the Ballon D’or in 1975.

Wrexham have a terrible record away at Watford, with only one win and two draws in our 10 visits there. Our only victory was almost 51 years ago in Division 3, with very different looking teams and kits . . . and a very different looking Vicarage Road! We meet again on Tuesday!

OTD 1929 ✍️ 97 years ago, Wrexham signed Welsh centre forward Tommy Bamford from Bridgend Town. The 23yo would hit the ground running, scoring 6 goals in the final 7 games of the season. Tommy would eventually score 218 goals for us - a club record that may never be beaten.

OTD 1970 Wrexham 1-1 Swansea City 56 years ago today, a big game in the promotion race. The crowd was very similar to the game on Friday night. Arfon Griffiths was making his 400th club appearance and put us ahead but Geoff Thomas equalised. Both teams would get promoted.

A huge congratulations to Paul Mullin who made his 500th career appearance in English football this week for Bradford City. Well over half of his career goals so far have been scored at Wrexham. One of the greatest signings in our entire history. Mullin. The legend. The king.
