On Ugadi, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Mahaswamij delivered an Anugraha Sandesha, highlighting the supreme importance of Dharma as the very foundation of human welfare, and the need to steadfastly preserve and practice Sanatana Dharma in all circumstances. Sri Jagadguru emphasised that dharma alone is the cause of welfare, while adharma is the cause of suffering. Despite rapid advancements in modernity and material comforts, suffering continues to persist. While certain hardships may have reduced, new forms of distress have arisen, as the root cause of suffering remains unaddressed. No amount of external comfort, wealth, or power can eliminate suffering so long as its root persists. Even in times devoid of material conveniences, people were able to live in contentment - demonstrating that happiness does not arise from comfort, but from adherence to dharma. Thus, where dharma prevails, peace and joy naturally follow, irrespective of external conditions. Conversely, where adharma exists, sorrow is inevitable. These enduring truths remain unchanged despite the passage of time and progress of the world. Calling upon all to recognise this clearly, His Holiness ordained that Sanatana Dharma must be practised with sincerity and commitment.
