In the life of a mentor, this past wk was unforgettable. 3 of my PhD students: ⁦@XGaoKevin⁩ ⁦@GarmanyRamin⁩ & ⁦@sahejbains⁩ successfully defended their PhD thesis. I started as their adviser, grew into their mentor, and became their “father”. So PROUD of them!

I got to start my week ⁦@MayoClinic⁩ ⁦@MayoGradSchool⁩ w/ a truly special “Team Ackerman” event. ⁦@XGaoKevin⁩ successfully defended his PhD today & soon will be recognized as Dr. Gao. So excited for & proud of Kevin! 🤗 Next step - postdoc ⁦@StanfordCVI⁩

Thanks @hrs_journal & congrats to my @MayoGradSchool PhD student @XGaoKevin on his characterization of a lidocaine/mexiletine-insensitive LQT3-causative mutation. Unfortunately, we were unable to become smart enough soon enough for the beautiful girl who owned this variant.

Also big shout out to @marissastutzman @DaveTester77 @JohnGiudicessi and others not on twitter. This is truly a team effort!

Excited to share our latest work in @hrs_journal on characterization of a novel SCN5A variant causing LQT3. Phenytoin could be effective as a variant specific therapy. Thanks @MJAckermanMDPhD for the mentorship!

Very fortunate to have @XGaoKevin on my team. Kevin is a PhD student @MayoGradSchool and just finished is first ever presentation @AHAMeetings. The model system that he has developed for Multifocal Ectopic Purkinje-Related PVCs is really cool. Great work Kevin.

CONGRATS ⁦@XGaoKevin⁩ on his first poster presentation at #HRS2021 detailing effect of #mexiletine on 3 different #LQTS re-engineered #heart cell models from pts w/ LQT1, LQT2, & LQT3. This Rx is not for just LQT3 anymore. At bench & at bedside, remember it for tough LQT2.
