Robotics research and development has almost entirely been done on the Unitree G1.
I’m taking about all the university labs but also Physical AI companies, look at teams like Openmind and Dimensional.
Now the only hardware accessible has been banned, meaning the USA will drop further behind, and will likely lose talent too, as they need access.

NEW The FCC has now added two new categories of devices to our Covered List, which bans new versions from import or sale in America. 1. Advanced robotic devices, such as humanoids and quadrupeds produced in foreign countries. 2. Power inverters produced in foreign countries. This action follows determinations by Executive Branch nat sec agencies that the devices pose unacceptable risks to our national security. It includes exemptions for devices that, based on a DOW or DHS finding, pose no unacceptable threat.

The Trump administration plans to announce bans on imports of Chinese robots and power inverters later today. It is being reported here on X that a Chinese AI model ban will also be announced today, but that is not in the Reuters article.
