In a multi religious society like India’s followers of different religions should live and let live. Conversions violate this basic principle. Hinduism doesn’t believe in conversion. India is a vastly majority Hindu country. This ethos of the country should define relations between followers of different faiths. Charity should be a social, humanitarian act, not one of religious doctrine or one with religious overtones. Why should charity be a mission? The history of conversions in India has been politically destructive. Other countries should not interfere in our internal affairs on behalf of any religious group. This only creates suspicion and mistrust.

Lurid Orientalism? American media often refer to the BJP as “Hindu nationalists,” but rarely describe Republicans as “Christian nationalists,” even as the relationship between the Republican Party and Christian nationalism has shifted from a quiet alliance to a central pillar of the party’s identity and policy agenda. Recent surveys by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) find that a majority of Republicans are now either “adherents” or “sympathizers” of Christian nationalism. This reluctance to label the GOP “Christian nationalist” reflects Western self-image. To do so would be to acknowledge that the United States is not an “enlightened, secular” state, but one where religious identity is a primary driver of power — much like the systems the West often scrutinizes in the East through Edward Said’s lens of Orientalism. In the Western imagination, Eastern politics is often cast as inherently religious or tribal. The media’s reluctance to apply the same labels at home has, in effect, enabled Christian nationalism to grow by allowing it to operate under the ostensibly “neutral” banner of conservatism. This has, ominously, helped fuel racial bigotry. nytimes.com/2026/05/04/wor…

$NVO launched Wegovy oral pill! It is a paradigm shift in weight loss management similar to when GLP-1 was introduced. There is no competition between an oral pill that doesn’t need special storage vs a peptide injection that has specific storage requirements and of course injecting oneself. This is an entirely new category. It opens up entirely new possibilities.

This investing stat never ceases to blow my mind! 😳😳😳 How much can a diversified equity portfolio help you in retirement? If you had $1M in 2000, needing $50k/yr plus inflation— You WERE BROKE BY 2016 if you invested 100% in S&P 500! If you instead invested in a (globally) diversified stock portfolio (with small cap & value exposure), you had $3.0M left—3x your starting amount!—in 2025, including almost $800k more annual spending from 2017-2025! Share this with EVERY retired or soon-to-be retired person you know!

It’s one thing to hear about it, but it’s another thing to visualize it. Watch from 2012-2024 how Nancy Pelosi outperforms both Warren Buffet as well as the S&P 500. Nancy Pelosi is either the best stock trader of all time, or she belongs in prison.

Gruesome Businesses: These businesses grow rapidly and consume huge amounts of capital but earn little or no money, or returns that do not justify the investment. •Analogy: A "gruesome" savings account that pays an inadequate interest rate and requires you to continuously add money at those disappointing returns. •Example: The airline industry, which Buffett famously described as a "bottomless pit" for capital, where growth attracts investors even though the economics are poor and even good management cannot overcome the industry's fundamental challenges.

The Thanksgiving Turkey: A lesson in Risk. This story illustrates the Black Swan problem: the limits of knowledge, the danger of using past data to predict extreme future events, and the problem of "fooled by randomness". 999 good days for the Turkey ends with one catastrophic fatality! Happy Thanksgiving!
