Trauma has a way of convincing us we're not smart. Not smart enough, anyway. Not as smart as we "should" be, as we were "expected" to be, as we'd NEED to be to be taken seriously. It often happens in emotional flashbacks, hand in hand w/ feeling young & powerless. Which tracks.

Trauma survivors often develop this SEVERE aversion to "small talk." Sometimes superficial chitchat even makes us annoyed or angry. It's nothing personal-- we've just gotten REAL clear on how precious our bandwidth is, & REAL selective on how we're willing to allocate it.

It is such a norm to exclude disabled students from field trips. But it shouldn't be. I feel strongly that if we started insisting field trips be inclusive or not happen at all, we would find ways to make them inclusive 99% of the time.
