@Freyjaiskogen I wish they would resurrect the idea to do an orchestral version of it.

It stands at times in stark contrast to its brilliantly beautiful predecessors, yet feels perfectly cohesive. It is by far their most raw and aggressive album. I love every second of it. And I must also mention the paintings of Tanya Stene for the album covers - stunning work.

The concluding chapter of Ulver's Trilogie (Bergtatt, Kveldssanger, Nattens Madrigal) is as much a relentlessly savage cacophony of chaos as it is an abrasively poetic meditation on a concept. Nattens Madrigal - Aatte hymne til ulven i manden • Ulver • 1997 • Reissue • 2019

@Xopheles @anticommie123 Forgot about those! Briefly listened to Hellwell around ten years ago but guess I was still trying to get the rest of the 90s and 2000s Manilla stuff at that point. Never heard Riddlemaster. Worth getting?

@Arrrrrrrach @anticommie123 You got me to revisit just now. Sounds like Mark was listening to, or surrounded himself with guys listening to AiC and some butt rock/hair ballads. Still Mark, but other influences you just don’t hear in the other albums.

@Arrrrrrrach @anticommie123 Yeah, that’s my least favorite. Not bad, but doesn’t really “fit” as a Manilla Road record. Probably would have been better released as a side project as originally intended. Sounds modern (for the time) and almost “alt” in parts.

Heavy Metal Gang Band of the week is Katatonia, focusing on their first four albums. Citing @uncult_swine: From blackened doom to doom death to gothic metal to depressing alternative rock/metal. Really looking forward to this one since I'm only really familiar with their debut.
