#ResultsWithTNIE | Northern #TamilNadu, which had been the bastion of the #DMK ever since the party first contested the Assembly election in 1957, has delivered a most dramatic verdict with #Vijay’s #TVK sweeping 44 of the 71 seats in the 11 districts in the Northern #TamilNadu. Of the 78 seats across 11 districts in the Northern district in #TamilNadu, while #TVK swept in 44 seats including 14 seats in #Chennai, #AIADMK led alliance won in as many as 19 seats, while the #DMK-led SPA, which won 64 seats in the 2021 Assembly election, won just eight. While the collapse of the #DMK’s dominance in the Northern districts is stark, the SPA’s loss of 56 seats was entirely harvested by the new entrant #Vijay’s #TVK, which did not even exist five years ago during the 2021 Assembly election. @pkr_madras #TamilNaduAssemblyElections2026 #TNAssemblyElections #AssemblyElections Read more here: newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-n…

#ResultsWithTNIE | The #TVK tsunami, which has swept the political landscape of the state, has impacted the #AIADMK harder than the #DMK in the Southern region. Out of the 58 Assembly seats in the 10 southern districts, the #AIADMK could not taste victory in any one of the constituencies in six districts — #Madurai, #Theni, #Sivaganga, #Ramanathapuram, #Virudhunagar, and #Thoothukudi. In #Dindigul, #Tirunelveli, #Tenkasi, and #Kanniyakumari districts, the total number of seats the #AIADMK won has not crossed six. The debutant party also managed to restrict the #DMK’s winning count in the region under 26, compared to the latter’s victory in 40 seats in 2021. The poll results have also delivered a barrage of surprises, with #DMK ministers such as #PalanivelThiagaRajan, #PMoorthy, and #GeethaJeevan losing to their respective #TVK candidates. #TVK dashed inside the #Madurai district as their candidates won in eight out of the 10 Assembly constituencies. @reportervignesh #TamilNaduAssemblyElections2026 #TNAssemblyElections #AssemblyElections Read more here: newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-n…

#ResultsWithTNIE | #TVK made a strong debut by winning five of the eight Assembly constituencies in #Erode district. The party captured three seats from the #DMK alliance and two from the #AIADMK alliance. The #AIADMK retained the remaining three seats, while the #DMK failed to open its account in the district. @kirubakaranR1 #TamilNaduAssemblyElections2026 #TNAssemblyElections #AssemblyElections Read more here: newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-n…

The Western region, traditionally considered the #AIADMK’s stronghold, has been breached by the #TVK and they’ve done so in a significant manner. While the #AIADMK managed to win only 19 constituencies, #TVK surged ahead in 27 seats. Among #AIADMK’s allies, the #PMK and the #BJP secured one seat each. On the other hand, the #DMK won seven constituencies while its allies — the #KMDK and the #CPI — won two. #TVK’s domination in the region, with 57 constituencies, overshadows that of the Dravidian majors, as the #AIADMK had won 35 constituencies in the region in 2021, while its allies #PMK and #BJP secured four and two seats respectively. Moreover, #TVK candidates secured the second position in several constituencies, pushing both #AIADMK and #DMK alliance candidates into third position, suggesting actor-politician C Joseph Vijay’s popularity among various sections of the party. @Senthil_TNIE Read more here: newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-n…

TVK has won 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, 10 short of the simple majority. #Vijay informed Guv Rajendra Arlekar that as the single largest party, #TVK should be invited to form the government. “We request an opportunity to demonstrate our majority,” he said in an e-mail communication, according to party sources. The party has arranged for its MLAs to stay at a resort in #Mamallapuram ahead of Vijay’s swearing-in planned on May 7. 🔗newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-n… #TNElections2026 #ResultsWithTNIE @xpresstn @TVKVijayHQ @TVKPartyHQ #TVKVijay#TVK #tnelection_2026

#ResultsWithTNIE | Out of the 41 constituencies in the nine districts in the central region of #TamilNadu -- considered to be a swing region — #TamilagaVettriKazhagam, led by #Vijay, acted as a disruptor to the victory of the candidates of the alliances led by both the Dravidian majors. The outcome, in some constituencies, has oscillated in favour of the #TVK. #TVK won in 12 seats, while the #DMK allies got victory in 21 seats, and the #AIADMK allies won in eight constituencies. #ResultsWithTNIE | In a major political shift, #Vijay’s #TVK has captured 14 of #Chennai’s 16 Assembly seats. The ruling #DMK managed to retain only two — #Chepauk-#Triplicane, held by Deputy CM #UdhayanidhiStalin, and the #Harbour constituency, won by P K Sekarbabu. Notably, Chief Minister #MKStalin lost his stronghold of #Kolathur, a seat he had held since 2011, to #TVK’s V S Babu by a margin of 9,121 votes. While Udhayanidhi won by a margin of 7,140 votes against #TVK’s D Selvam, Sekarbabu won by a margin of 11,750 votes against Sinora P S Ashok who got 33,504 votes. @SAPRAVEENA1 & @RudhranJourno Read more here: newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-n…

#ResultsWithTNIE | With just 47 seats, the #AIADMK has been pushed to the third place, losing its principal opposition party status. For the party under the leadership of #EdappadiKPalaniswami, it is the second consecutive defeat in the Assembly elections. The party could not retain the 66 seats it won in 2021 Assembly election. Reacting to the results, Palaniswami said he accepts the verdict of the people wholeheartedly. “We shall recover from this setback soon. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the #AIADMK will return to the path of victory. I affirm with conviction that the party will forever remain committed to serving the people,” he added. @muruga_TNIE #TamilNaduAssemblyElections2026 #TNAssemblyElections #AssemblyElections Read more here: newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-n…

#ResultsWithTNIE | By guiding the #AINRC-led #NDA in #Puducherry to claim 18 out of the 30 seats, #NRangasamy became the chief minister for the fifth time, a feat unparalleled in the Union Territory’s history. Leading a #Congress government, the 76-year-old Rangasamy first became CM in 2001, and then again in 2006, steering a #Congress government one more time. However, he was forced to resign in 2008 due to political issues. He broke away from #Congress and floated the All India NR Congress, his party, just ahead of the 2011 election. He won the election the same year in alliance with the #AIADMK and became the CM for the third time. Though his party lost the 2016 elections by going it alone, he again became the CM in 2021 for the fourth time, after the #AINRC-#BJP alliance won the election. The same alliance once again has emerged victorious, setting the stage for his fifth term. Read full story here: newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-n…

#ResultsWithTNIE | #BJP has once again struggled to convert its vote share into seats, managing to secure just one seat in the Assembly election despite contesting as part of the #AIADMK-led #NDA. The party’s lone victory came through #MBhojarajan, who edged past #TVK’s R Ibrahim by a narrow margin of 976 votes. The #BJP had fielded candidates in 27 constituencies as part of the alliance. #TamilNaduAssemblyElections2026 #TNAssemblyElections #AssemblyElections Read more here: newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-n…

#ResultsWithTNIE | When actor #Vijay launched the #TVK in February 2024 and declared he would contest all 234 Assembly constituencies without alliances, it was widely dismissed as yet another star-led political experiment. The verdict on May 4, however, has emphatically upended that perception. In his maiden electoral outing, #Vijay has steered his party to emerge as the single largest formation, a performance that places him next only to #MGR in terms of impact in a debut election. #TamilNadu has seen several actors venture into politics, but #Vijay’s ascent is striking for its lack of political lineage or organisational inheritance. @pkr_madras #TamilNaduAssemblyElections2026 #TNAssemblyElections #AssemblyElections Read more here: newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-n…

#ResultsWithTNIE | The ruling #DMK, which won 133 constituencies in 2021 elections and came to power as the single-largest party, has faced a rout this time with 17 incumbent ministers, including party president and CM #MKStalin, losing in their own constituencies. Stalin had begun the campaign with the confidence of winning a second term with more than 200 seats and forming a Dravidian Model 2.0 government. Instead, the party has finished second with just 59 seats on its own. With Stalin losing, his son and party’s youth wing secretary #UdhayanidhiStalin – who retained his #Chepauk-#Triplicane seat – is now likely to lead the #DMK alliance. But the question that lingers is: what went wrong for a party so confident of a second mandate? @pkr_madras Read here: newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-n…
