The “K = thousand” thing goes way back to ancient Greece.
The Greek word “khilioi” (χίλιοι) meant “thousand.” Later, scientists and mathematicians shortened it to “kilo” when creating the metric system in the 1700s.
So:
kilo = 1,000 units
kilometer = 1,000 meters
kilogram = 1,000 grams
Eventually, people outside science started using just the letter “K” as a shortcut for “thousand,” especially in finance, newspapers, sports, and later the internet.
For example:
A salary of $50,000 became “50K”
10,000 followers became “10K”
The internet and social media made it even more popular because it’s shorter and easier to read on screens.

@ProudSocialist Sick Luigi Mangione fangirls say murdered CEO Brian Thompson’s children are ‘better off without him
English

BREAKING: In a win for Luigi Mangione the judge rules the cops conducted an illegal search and seizure violating Luigi’s 4th amendment rights since they didn’t have a search warrant.
All items found in Luigi’s backpack at the Pennsylvania McDonald’s will not be allowed at trial.
The judge is allowing the gun to be used at trial since cops claim they didn’t find the gun until they got back to the police station.
This has always been the most suspicious part of the case because how did the cops miss the gun at McDonalds?
The cops could have easily planted the gun in Luigi’s backpack on their way to the station, which is what Luigi’s lawyers should argue.

A Mother's Heart Knows No Borders In the sun-baked streets of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, a tiny baby girl named Zahara was fighting for her life. Born on January 8, 2005, she entered an orphanage frail, malnourished, and battling serious health issues. The world was big and scary for this little one… until one woman changed everything.Angelina Jolie had already opened her heart and home to her son Maddox from Cambodia. But in 2005, her journey led her to Ethiopia. She walked into that orphanage, locked eyes with baby Zahara, and felt an instant, unbreakable bond. "I knew she was mine the moment I saw her," Angelina would later share.On July 6, 2005, Angelina officially adopted Zahara. She carried her out of Ethiopia in her arms, vowing to give this precious girl the love, safety, and opportunities every child deserves. Back in America, Zahara was welcomed into a growing, beautiful, blended family. She became Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt — a name that carries strength, heritage, and new beginnings.From those early fragile days to the confident young woman she is today, Zahara has thrived. She’s walked red carpets with her mom, advocated for causes close to her heart, and shown the world what love across continents truly looks like.One photo, one moment in time — a Hollywood star holding a little Ethiopian girl with big curious eyes and puffy buns — captured it all: motherhood has nothing to do with borders, blood, or background. It’s about showing up, choosing love, and never letting go.Angelina didn’t just adopt a daughter.
She gained a warrior princess… and Zahara gained a mother who moved mountains for her. Real love. Real family. Real story.
