Nah this is dumb. Don’t blame communities because YOU can’t control spam. People actually built real spaces there and you just deleting it like it’s nothing?? Fix your system instead of killing the feature.

We're going to be investing heavily in XChat. Communities had a great vision, but they were used by less than 0.4% of users—yet contributed to 80% of spam reports, financial scams, and malware on X. It occupied half the team's time some weeks, while the rest of the app suffered. Of the handful of Communities that succeeded, most were user-acquisition channels for Kick or compensated clipper communities. There are a handful very cool communities that will have to migrate (e.g., coin collectors, baseball cards, skincare, artists), but that content should really live on Timeline or in chats—instead of a Temu version of subreddits.

Well, the X community just loves them, and yesterday you posted a video with the X update, where you can see the “Memes” tab, and on it—some character. One of the users asked Grok, “Hey, Grok, what’s this meme?” to which he replied, “white blob meme” The community created a meme coin, and it became popular, but this morning someone apparently dug into X’s image files and found this image in the code as memes_sock . So what is this character’s name, anyway? The community is really curious.

We'll also increase groupchat limits to 500 members tomorrow and aim to reach 1000 in the next couple weeks. This should cover all but a handful of communities on X.

1. XChat now supports joinable links for groupchats. Create a public link & share direct to Timeline. With support for 350 members per chat (and growing), Groupchat Links are the fastest way to bring people together on X.
2. Due to declining usage, we're deprecating X Communities on May 6.
To migrate your Community's members, pin your groupchat link so people can join it over the next 2 weeks.
This is part of our broader effort to simplify the experience on X. Make no mistake: we are investing heavily in niche communities with the launch of Custom Timelines—and much more to come.
