New Disabled South and New Disabled South Rising condemn the city of Atlanta’s refusal to count and verify signatures on petitions calling for Cop City to be put on the ballot.

This board confused Autism Awareness with Pride because that’s how out of touch they are with both the disabled and LGBTQ communities. Right wing ideology is not about “family values”; it’s about hating anything that makes you uncomfortable.

This is a victory for Georgia voters, but this is just one piece of a much larger voter suppression bill built upon the lies and conspiracy theories that Donald Trump and his allies have pushed since the 2020 election. The fight to protect voting rights continues in GA.

Why don’t disabled people vote, you ask? When you pass legislation that creates accessibility barriers, you stop disabled people from voting. It’s literally that simple. The better question is; Why are Republicans so ableist?

In America, over half of our unhoused citizens are disabled in some way. There is no real system to provide housing or assistance to disabled people, and if your state does have something, the waitlist is over a year long. We’re tried of being 2nd class citizens.

Disabled people should never apologize for wanting access to every aspect of life.
