The impact of galamsey on Anlo Beach at Shama in the Western Region 💔

Eii, my goodness!! almost all the resorts in the Western Region are being destroyed by galamsey. Location:Sawoma -Ellembele District 🤦🏾♂️ Nothing has changed to this day. #StopGalamseyNow

This footage of the River Ankobra isn’t just a drone shot, it’s a CRIME SCENE. What used to be a source of life is now a thick, toxic sludge of mercury and cyanide, flowing directly into the future of every Ghanaian. We are currently on track to start importing drinking water within the next decade because our natural sources have been sacrificed for gold whose benefits we may never see. In Ghana, if you steal a goat, you go to jail but if you destroy an entire river system, you get a seat at the political table. We see labourers in handcuffs, but we never see the financiers who buy the excavators and the mercury in a courtroom. This isn’t just about nature. It’s about kidney failure in our youth, deformed babies being born in mining communities, and the soaring cost of water treatment. Meanwhile, these politicians fly abroad for healthcare and drink bottled water, while citizens are left to bath and drink this filth they’ve enabled. Galamsey continues not because it’s “hard to stop,” but because it’s too profitable for the political elite to end and accountability in Ghana remains a major problem. Let’s stop the blame games. Both the NPP and the NDC have failed us. #EndGalamseyNow
