Yesterday's JFK hearing was a Washington performance piece and an exercise is our faltering democracy, a mass (and a mess) of Americans from every part of the country struggling to make sense of our collective history in front of the social media multitudes. Good morning. I’m back in the Salinas Courthouse today to hear Judge Jennifer O’Keefe’s ruling on restitution. During sentencing last March, Judge O’Keefe ordered Paul Flores to pay restitution to the Smart family for their legal and travel expenditures.

This is the second time Paul Flores has been attacked by another inmate since being transferred to Pleasant Valley, after his neck and throat were cut in August.

Correctional officers seized two inmate-manufactured weapons from the scene. Flores was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is now back at Pleasant Valley State Prison in fair condition. The incident is under investigation.

At approximately 3:27 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, Pleasant Valley State Prison correctional officers saw Paul Flores being stabbed by another inmate in a recreation yard. Flores sustained multiple wounds to his back, neck, hands, and head.
