Perhaps that’s the key point: the most extreme forms of expression often emerge in adversarial contexts, where emotional attack replaces the need for factual or logical consistency.

There’s something quite bleak about this platform: a lot of people with very strong views seem to struggle with objective analysis.

In contrast, some of the more extreme accounts feel less like conviction and more like pure antagonism. It becomes difficult to identify a consistent reasoning framework behind what they say.

But there’s a noticeable difference between ideological expression and purely hostile expression.When people argue for nationalism, capitalism, or communism, their internal logic is usually traceable—even if you disagree with it.

To be clear, I can understand the underlying motivations. Political disagreement is real, and these positions don’t appear out of nowhere.

On X, this is especially visible. There are many accounts across different languages whose main focus is anti-communist or broadly anti-China rhetoric. Some of them come across as extremely reactive or incoherent.

The reality was that even had Chiang won the Civil War, China would have looked much the same in our timeline except with a different flag and the US would be just as hostile towards a KMT China as a communist one. Any American who believes otherwise is just wishcasting his desires and not based in reality.

@yuminseog2 It’s possible the whole "polite Japanese" image is partly curated for international consumption—a bit like anime, really. Still, the pressure cooker of Japanese society does seem to take a serious toll on people’s mental health. My own experience when I visited was pleasant.

Why do the Japanese, who appear orderly and clean to outsiders, act like such a complete lunatic in their own country? Is it because their white master isn't watching? 🤭

@RkMonoChrome_CN Groups without rules tend to descend into stupidity, self-organising communities with no vested interests rarely produce leadership capable of harnessing any wisdom they might stumble upon. Throwing away something you genuinely love just because of that lot?that’d be pretty daft.
