"Anthony's a big piece of what we're doing here and that's moving forward. We got to a World Series with him as our shortstop, had some big moments for us in the World Series and that playoff run. I'm excited to see him come back here." - Aaron Judge on Anthony Volpe

Following today’s game, the Yankees returned INF Anthony Volpe from his rehab assignment, reinstated him from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Yankees have optioned Anthony Volpe to the minors

Aaron Boone was asked if the Yankees' plan to have Anthony Volpe be their starting shortstop when he returns from injury has changed: "We'll see. We'll continue to talk about that. Again, José's played himself into and earned himself more playing time. I love the idea of José being in that kind of super-utility role because he's so good at it. But you also can't ignore that he's played so well defensively at shortstop, been a real spark for us offensively, especially after kind of getting off to a slow start probably the first 10 days, two weeks of the season. He's really picked that up and been in the middle of us winning games. At the end of the day, we're going to try and do what's best for our team and then individual players that we care about too and know that are going to be important contributors to our team. We weigh all that."

Aaron Boone says they haven’t decided if they’ll call up Anthony Volpe tomorrow after his rehab ends: “Caballero's playing the heck out of the position and playing really well so that complicates it. Just deciding, what's the role that exists right away?”

Aaron Boone said they still haven’t decided if they will activate Anthony Volpe tomorrow.
