@AshanMendis6 @chami9539 @Chathurangaab Did Ranil fire a single person? 🤔 you can’t just rock up and fire public servants. He isn’t talking about volume, he is talking about efficiency. I understand that you can’t fire people, but they need to figure things out without just giving excuses.

This is what being on the back foot looks like. This is what happens when a government that came in with a two thirds mandate starts reacting instead of governing. The coal mess, the hacking incident, and a string of other failures… and now the instinct is to deflect, to dilute responsibility, to point fingers. At some point, you have to own it. You don't get elected with that kind of mandate to spend your time whining about the same opposition people already rejected. We know what the opposition is… their theatrics, their noise, their bullshit doesn't move people anymore. What people are watching now is you. We heard your promises and the rhetoric and you earned a mandate for it. Now act like it. #SriLanka #SystemChangeLK

“The ministry has issued a clear statement on the hacking incident, and a proper inquiry is underway to take action against those responsible. The opposition has developed a habit of making allegations without any evidence,” Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said, commenting on the Treasury hacking incident. She accused the opposition of trying to gain attention, adding that the people of the country will decide whether that is the role of the opposition.

@Dilith_J What an idiot, so we’d rather not have fuel ? This is why these idiots should never come into power. I wonder how he became a successful businessman with this kind of mentality. Leadership needs to move fast, sometimes we need to bear short term costs for long term stability.

Trafigura (Pvt) Ltd., a company that had broken its agreement with the CPC to supply fuel citing issues in the Gulf, had made an unsolicited offer in March this year. The uncontested offer, as opposed to their initial offer of USD4.08 per barrel, was at USD48 per barrel. This purchase was made, according to the government, due to 'special' circumstances. The entire additional cost paid in this regard will have to be borne by the people of this country.

Sri Lanka has by now probably has at least 10% of the population's personal information and qualitative data is out there for bad faith actors to impersonate them, well. PDPA can't alone save this. Actors like SEC and CBSL should grow a backbone. Regulators should regulate.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said that his explanation of necessary cybersecurity measures was met with “ha ha” reactions on social media. He added that proper implementation of those measures could have reduced the risk of the Treasury cyber theft.

@KaviSenu This is exactly how any developed country bus services work. Multiple companies have multiple routes covering major parts of the city. Hopefully even private sector could invest and start more services like this.

Today morning at Koswatta junction, I saw a low-floor bus passing by. Since many people had shared both good and bad opinions about it, I installed the app and checked it out… First thing is, even though they market this as “Metro Bus,” the app is actually called LMT GO. If you search things like “Metro Bus app Sri Lanka,” it’s hard to find unless you type the exact name. Also, it doesn’t seem to be marketed much yet. I only found the correct app name through someone else’s post. So they definitely need to promote the app more and make it familiar to people 😊 You can link your bank account, top up an e-wallet, and pay by scanning a QR code through the app. That’s a really good feature 😍 The best thing is, you can plan your journey in advance by checking bus schedules and also track buses live, so you can travel without wasting time 🙏 A common complaint I saw was that the bus doesn’t go directly from Borella to Maradana, but instead takes a longer route via Town Hall and Eye Hospital… In my opinion, since this is the first phase and they are prioritizing accessibility for disabled passengers, they have designed the route to cover places like the National Hospital and Eye Hospital. So I don’t see that as a problem. Another complaint was that you can’t get on or off wherever you want. But that’s exactly what “limited stops” means 😂 This bus is not meant to stop at every junction or traffic light. It only stops at designated main bus stops. Some people also complained that the bus doesn’t wait for passengers and leaves even if there are only a few people… But honestly, isn’t that how a quality bus service should work? Instead of stopping everywhere and getting overcrowded, now when people see a bus that isn’t packed, it feels strange 😂 This should run as a pilot project for about a year without worrying too much about profit or loss, until people get used to it. Right now, buses run roughly every hour. In the future, they should add more buses so that if you miss one, the next comes within about 5 minutes. If Sri Lanka wants to reduce traffic, people need to shift from private vehicles to buses. To make someone who comfortably travels in their own AC car switch to a bus, two things must happen: The journey should be comfortable without sweating and discomfort. The travel time should be reasonable, without long delays and constant stopping. Right now, this Metro Bus service is achieving both of these. We just need to keep supporting it until people get used to it ♥️ #LankaMetroTransit #CleanSriLanka

The recent USD 2.5 million heist from the Sri Lankan Treasury is a national embarrassment. It's not just a technical glitch. It is a catastrophic failure of basic security protocol at the highest level of government. I think it's clear that the External Resources Department (ERD) was caught sleeping. Hackers intercepted emails between the Treasury and Australian creditors to divert debt repayments. This is Business Email Compromise (BEC) 101, yet our "experts" let it happen with millions of taxpayer dollars on the line. The Illusion of Security I find it pathetic that we are pushing for a "cash-lite" economy while our own Treasury can't even secure a Gmail-level communication chain. If hackers can sit in the middle of a sovereign debt repayment, they are likely sitting in every other ministry too. The government keeps blaming "misinformation," but the only fact that matters is that the money is gone. This wasn't a sophisticated "realmhacking" operation. It was a failure of human oversight and outdated infrastructure. The Cost of Incompetence I believe this breach erodes what little international trust we have left after debt restructuring. Creditors will now question if our digital systems are even fit for purpose. Digital transformation without security transformation is just an invitation for theft. We need more than a CID investigation; we need a complete purge of legacy systems and the incompetent protocols that allow "email interception" to become a national crisis.

Sri Lanka’s 🇱🇰 Treasury Hack: What Is Confirmed So Far About the USD 2.5M Finance Ministry Breach ⭕ Sri Lanka’s 🇱🇰 Finance Ministry confirmed that cyber hackers breached the External Resources Department, the Treasury unit handling foreign-funded transactions and debt-related external payments. ⭕ The amount at the center of the case is USD 2.5 million, linked to a foreign-currency payment identified from January 2026. The missing funds were tied to a payment involving Australia 🇦🇺 and may have formed part of a USD 22.9 million external debt settlement. ⭕ Investigators believe intruders interfered with email-based payment instructions in the sovereign debt payment process, possibly by inserting or altering payment details and redirecting part of the Australia 🇦🇺-linked transfer away from the intended recipient. ⭕ Committee on Public Finance Chair Dr. Harsha de Silva has said Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 detected the missing USD 2.5 million only after the Australian creditor 🇦🇺 complained that the debt payment had not been received. ⭕ Dr. Harsha de Silva has also said the money was siphoned off in 5 tranches, indicating the loss may not have happened through a single transfer. ⭕ Deputy Finance Minister Anil Jayantha has said the fraud became clearer after a similar attempt linked to a payment due to India 🇮🇳 raised suspicion over changed account numbers in the payment details. ⭕ The case was reported to SL-CERT, the Police Computer Crime Investigation Division, the Criminal Investigation Department, and the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, showing it had already escalated into a cybercrime and financial-intelligence investigation. ⭕ Disciplinary action was initiated against several officials, and the available information states that 5 officials were suspended: 2 Directors, 2 Deputy Directors, and the Head of the Computer Division. ⭕ The Public Debt Management Office (PDMO) became fully operational in December 2025, while the CBSL Public Debt Department ceased operations from January 1, 2026, after debt-management responsibilities were shifted into the new structure. ⭕ That means one of the earliest major debt-servicing episodes after Sri Lanka’s 🇱🇰 new debt-management handover ended with a cyber breach, missing funds, and suspended officials. ⭕ What is officially confirmed is narrower than some of the reporting: the breach happened, money linked to the transaction was stolen, and both criminal and internal investigations are underway. ⭕ The biggest unanswered questions are the exact attack path, how the payment controls failed, whether the funds can be recovered, and whether the case affects Sri Lanka’s 🇱🇰 sovereign payment credibility. #SriLanka

Don't be a slave. Not for the NPP, not for anyone. I voted for them. I do believe they are least corrupt. They also seem very incompetent at certain things. Trivialising real loss is wrong. Whether AKD does it or someone else. No real Ditwah fund, jayakodi, and now the hack.

The fact that the NPP had to wait for the opposition to raise this hacker issue before issuing a statement shows just how poor their comms are. How hard is it to put together a proper communications team? Right now it’s just X laundromats sounding silly every time they post.

Rohan phishing attack prevention has nothing to do with just being highly skilled / paid in the domain. I could get you on a phishing attack. Most of us would be taken. I guess they didn’t have proper management that can reduce the odds of this (there is no 100% solution). That’s the reality in most places. For example in WSO2 we phishing attack ourselves periodically. Yet we fell for a $500k scam some years ago. (In that case luckily we got a lot of it back.) Last year one of customers got phished and paid our bill to someone else. That was a big company in a digitally sophisticated country. It is only going to get 1000x worse with deep fakes supporting spear phishing attacks.

@HarshadeSilvaMP @CBSL Also since this shift started recently, we are still in the transition period. So do you really believe that the entire operation was shifted from CBSL to Treasury already? Even if that’s the case (which is highly unlikely) still CBSL should have bn involved at least 1 payment.

What happened to $2.5 million of the Sri Lankan peoples’ money? Disappeared! This is not just negligence. This is a failure we warned about. When debt operations were moved from the @cbsl to the Treasury's PDMO, the #COPF repeatedly urged the Treasury to hire competent, experienced staff. Managing a sovereign nation's debt in global financial markets is not a clerical task. Those warnings were ignored. Now we are paying the price, and the question is technically, has #SriLanka defaulted on payments as the creditor is alleged to have not received five debt payments? This comes as the MoF has failed to appear before COPF for three consecutive meetings: on gaming regulation, Q4 2025 fiscal performance, and the critical discussion on fiscal-monetary policy coordination. In over 15 years in @ParliamentLK I have never seen this level of contempt for parliamentary oversight. This morning, we wrote to the Sec of the Treasury. Parliament is constitutionally responsible for public finance. We have yet to receive a response on how or when this happened, and why MoF/CBSL has been silent all this time. This is not a political issue. Regardless of where we stand, we must come together to address this, hold those responsible accountable, and rebuild the trust our country has worked so hard to restore. The people of #Srilanka deserve nothing less. #accountability #publicfinance Watch full statement: youtu.be/t9g1wVA9kSU?si…
