Listen, I’m not saying I want to be a technical advisor… that job should go to actual Navy aviators. But I’m formally requesting the opportunity to review the plot to make sure it doesn’t pivot on the F-35 not working because of GPS jamming and the Air Force just not existing.

After getting awarded the Medal of Honor, Maverick agreed to run Top Gun, taking Iceman's old job. But he hates not flying, so he decides to retire and sail around the world with Penny. But then he learns that pilots are getting replaced by AI piloted drones. After all, every plane shot down in Iran cost a hundred million dollars. Drones are cheaper, expendable, no lengthy training required. Dog fighting is going the way of the calvalry and the cannon ball, anyway. The Admiral tells Maverick that Top Gun is transitioning to drone pilot training--this will be the last class of recruits. They need him to use the new recruits to train the AI to replace them. They need Maverick to teach the machine everything he knows. But, in the final battle, the experimental AI drones will fail -- because they aren't human and will never, ever have the need for speed. Maverick will save the mission and also save Top Gun itself by proving that no machine can replace a human fighter pilot. He and Penny finally sail around the world -- but he does install an AI captain on the boat so he and Penny can relax. After all, he doesn't know anything about sailing. THE END

Top Gun: Maverick (2022) felt like a cash-grab sequel on paper, and then it shows up this locked-in, every setup paying off, every moment landing, and suddenly it’s doing what most blockbusters forgot how to do.

@DavidAFrench That’s a much more measured response than you started with. You also have to ask the question, thus far you haven’t, if they put the school there to make targeting extra complicated.

If we did this, I don't think for a moment we did it on purpose. But we need an investigation to determine whether there was a flaw in the process, including whether Hegseth's obvious disdain for ROE's contributed to any targeting error.

We absolutely need to know if this was an American strike. It's looking increasingly like it was, and if so it will be one of the worst individual incidents of civilian deaths in a generation or more.

This is exactly why you don't force kids into sports. Alysa Liu's entire life was dedicated to skating. Not by choice, but because her father demanded it. She won the US Championship at 13, but announced her retirement at 16. She threw her skates in the closet and decided to experience the world. She hiked to Everest base camp, got her driver's license and studied at UCLA. After a ski trip in 2024, she had the itch to lace them up again and nailed a double axel. She announced her comeback, but only on her terms. She wouldn't allow her father (or anyone) to tell her what to eat, when to train or how to dress. The result was athletic and creative liberation. Despite the hiatus, Alysa entered Milan as the favorite to win gold and delivered on the hype.
