Per Politico, defense officials learned about Trump's proposal to pull U.S. troops out of Germany the same way the public did, by reading his Truth Social post. The Pentagon had no plans for a drawdown. A recent Pentagon review specifically did not recommend reducing forces in Europe. The numbers behind this make it stunning. Germany hosts roughly 35,000 to 40,000 U.S. troops, along with U.S. Africa Command, U.S. European Command, Ramstein Air Base, the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center which treats every wounded American servicemember from the Middle East, and the logistics infrastructure that supports every U.S. operation in Europe and Africa. You can't unwind that in months. It takes years of planning, billions of dollars, and the relocation of capabilities that don't have obvious new homes. The timing makes it even worse. The Pentagon is already running a depleted munitions stockpile from the Iran war. And now the president is publicly suggesting a major redeployment from the very theater that has been backfilling all the others. German officials reacted with controlled fury. One warning is particularly direct: "Trump's policy of crude threats has reached its limits" and a withdrawal "would severely weaken the U.S. itself." This is the same pattern that defined the Iran war. Major strategic decisions made impulsively, announced on social media, with the Pentagon learning about them after the public does. The Madman Theory works as negotiating leverage. It doesn't work as a method for actually managing a global military posture stretched across multiple active theaters.

🇺🇸 A 22-year-old U.S. Army soldier named Jakob Marcoulier was arrested after planning to do a mass shooting in a synagogue and take the life of "every single Jew" inside. According to federal prosecutors, Marcoulier posted voice messages and rants on the Discord messaging platform, stating that his "goal in life" was to “walk Into a synagogue with my AK” and "k*ll every single Jew" inside. In his recorded messages, he detailed plans to use an AK assault rifle with 75-round drum magazines and body armor once he returned from an upcoming overseas deployment. Court documents suggest the threats were motivated by white supremacist and antisemitic ideologies, with Marcoulier allegedly claiming the act was necessary to ensure the "white youth is secured". He has been charged with transmitting a threat in interstate commerce. If convicted, Marcoulier faces a maximum of five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
