When Michael Oliver broke into the EPL at 25 he was a prodigy. A referee 5 years removed from The Northern League everybody was speaking about him as one of the best, even at such a young age. In my opinion, every year that passes he makes stranger decisions, akin to somebody like Mike Dean. Just a completely different official to the one he was after breaking into the league in 2010. Do referees get worn down and jaded? Is the system failing them? Do they grow egos and become celebrities? Is it all of them? Is it something else? Technically his ability should be on an upward curve as well so it's confusing.
