A great first day at the Fall 2025 meeting of the @Materials_MRS here in Boston. My talk, titled ‘Soft, Responsive Bioresorbable Materials for Enhanced Ultrasound Imaging,” was in the late morning in a session on Ultrasound Devices organized by Prof. @AlinaRwei (@tudelft), Prof. Guosong Hong (@Stanford), Prof. @whl0903 (@UTAustin) and Prof. Hyunjoo Jenny Lee (@kaistpr). I covered our latest work on the use of thin, soft, miniaturized implantable ‘tags’ made of bioresorbable hydrogels and lithographically defined contrast agents to enable local measurements of important tissue properties at locations deep in the body, with readout by conventional medical imaging techniques, most prominently by ultrasound but also in forms compatible with CT and MRI methods. Specific clinical use cases involve monitoring for leaks following a GI surgery and tracking for early signs of rejection following a kidney transplant. Great audience and interactions after the talk – including lunch with the organizers and a former postdoc, Prof. @XugroupStanford (@Stanford). Thanks again for the opportunity to share our work at this meeting! The day concluded with a quick beer with Prof. Michael Dickey (@NCState) and Prof. Klas Hjort (Dean of Engineering at Uppsala University) followed by a dinner with former group members, organized by Prof. @NiLabDuke (@DukeU), and including Prof. Hui Fang (@dartmouth), Prof. @XugroupStanford (@Stanford), Dr. Claire Liu (Chan-Zuckerberg Biohub), Prof. Min-ho Seo (@PusanUni ), Prof. Zheng Yan (@Mizzou), Prof. @XuejuW (@UConn), Prof. Yi Zhang (@UConn), Prof. @AlinaRwei (@tudelft), Prof. @hangbozhao (@USC), Prof. @kento_yamagishi (@ppinokodai), along with special guests Prof. @YingBinbin (@UTSWMedCenter) and Ms. Amy Zhang (elementary school – daughter of Xueju and Yi!) Wonderful to see everyone!
