This doesn't fully pass the smell test to me. I still think older pro players will fight an uphill battle in any esport that shows the current signs of longevity, namely growth and rate of change. (exceptions like CS well taken)
If especial skill is constantly being forced out of the skill pool by meta evolutions or game updates (devaluing experience and crystalized skills) and older pro players learn less quickly even at equal effort given decreasing G-factor, they will lose ground in the long run.
If a game remains relatively stable in the efficiency of each domain of skill expression over the years, experience can make up for slower learning.
Another factor is the selection of innate traits that filter for competitors with the most relevant talent for each respective meta. Unless the older pro has additional factors that allow for slumps, periods that don't play to their inherent advantage are more likely to make team-building personnel decide against them, choking out their career more easily than younger players.
Also, if an esport grows steadily, so does the talent pool and the likelihood of entailing better talent than the older pros. In that, it is very likely that a vast majority of today's pro players would've never made it if esports had the status and financial opportunities that sports does.

@Slasher People tend to enjoy too many of the fruits of success / things outside of gaming to keep up the same level of work ethic that got them to higher heights in the first place.
If someone can keep the same work ethic they had when they first got into games, they'll still be great.

Quake and CS legends rapha, Karrigan, FalleN still compete at a high level playing fast shooters. the Starcraft brood war guys hit 400 APM in their mid 30's. and the OG fighting gods Daigo and Tokido are holding it down pushing 40+. gamers rise up, slowly

@Slasher 28 in esports = 50 in physical sports. still very impressive that faker is still racking them at 50 but it's slightly different

Hey everyone. Moving on from Overwatch. To keep it short I’ve fallen out of love for the game and esport. I’ve stopped playing the game entirely a few months ago and stopped caring. OW esports is dead to play full time and I’ve lost all dopamine from the game post season 9 health changes after 8 years of playing.
Regardless the real, more important reason is that I couldn’t justify playing any longer if the scene has less money in it than Contenders 2019. Even back then there was the grind to OWL which would 100% be monetarily worth it.
I will be focusing on school and am excited for my future. Never say never to coming back if changes are made but I must focus on my real future now. I’ve had so many amazing memories over the years from grinding open to contenders to my 4 years in OWL.
GGs ty everyone for letting me living this part of my life, ty path to pro, ty all my teammates and coaches, ty OWL and ty Overwatch (the first one) 🤭
