Veganism and meat consumption in the modern context are both two cheeks of the same ass. As someone who comes from a family of farmers who have been exploited by industries for as long as I remember, the real enemy is capitalism which makes the industries utterly dogshit.

the thing i hate most about yt vegans is stuff like when i try to talk to them about stuff like at least not eating cashews bc of the ridiculous amount of exploitation and the hazards involved in harvesting it and they refuse to even listen..

why do vegans act like their entire food industry isnt also built upon exploitation, rape, and murder? oh right, that's because it happens to human beings with a different skin tone from them so they can ignore it and act morally superior that they have reduced suffering.
nahara@naharamaayan

i think a lot of leftists are so weirdly defensive about veganism because it’s the one thing they can’t be performative about as it requires actual habitual changes instead of just retweeting useless petitions on twitter dot com

I think most people hate vegans because they individualize the problem of the meat industry and refuse to actually organize against capitalism to legitimately challenge the systems that make the meat industry so odious
Maya Luna@envisionedluna

Non-vegan leftists hate veganism because it's the one "morally correct" position you actually have to put effort into and can't just virtue signal (ie anti-fascism, anti-billionaire, anti-racism pro-LGBTQ).

@AA_Neu @jusdcanneberge I can show you multiple accounts that genuinely believes that it solves all these issues. It's not a straw man it's a surprising amount of vegans that believe that way.

@Yoieyoke @jusdcanneberge Nobody believes it solves all problems. That's a straw man you invented. It is however a mathematical fact that it greatly reduces those problems.

genuinely the idea of “men are inherently bad because they are men” is just a repackaged “boys will be boys” that absolves shitty men of blame instead of taking accountability and facing consequences for their horrible actions
Isla 🏝️🦌@Isla_Island_

i think genuine misandry is too kind to men because it implies it's just in their nature to be like this. it's much harsher to believe they could be better and are choosing to be awful.

@Yoieyoke @h0shiNohate Even communists don't go around preaching to people they think are lost causes, like people who are always bad faith. Communists are open to recruiting actual genuine people interested in discussion.

my opinion on veganism is that idc what people eat, but companies should not be legally allowed to label non-biodegradable landfill-fodder products like pleather as being "vegan", since the pollution those cause is an active agent in an ongoing mass extinction

@ZVeryn96103 @h0shiNohate And if I feel like I'm seeing so-called vegans say things like that. Whatever inherently anti-capitalist understanding veganism is supposed to have is not present in its current culture. My criticism of veganism is that it usually doesn't go far enough.

@ZVeryn96103 @h0shiNohate If and if a large goal is minimizing harm to sentient animals, then we should care about Labor conditions for those who are farming the plants we eat. I think we agree with on this, but I had a liberal vegan earlier literally tell me they prefer slave labor than killing animals

@sanguineblood I agree with this, but also the reverse is true. Suddenly all converting to vegans in a capitalist society doesn't make the system that uses slaves to harvest legumes and fruits go away. We got to address it all. Vegan anti-capitalism.

like sure currently the incentive towards further expanding horrible practises is capitalism but getting rid of capitalism dosent suddenly make factory farming ok

Just had a vegan tell me that they think it is morally better for us to stop killing animals instead of doing something about the horrible conditions and slave labor capitalists use use farm goods. I'm officially done with non-socialist vegans. Y'all can call it wraps

@AA_Neu @jusdcanneberge Yes I understand that, this does not solve all our problems though. I don't understand why people think it does. The meat we eat has been replaced with legumes and beans harvested from slaves in the global South. We can't just stop at not eating meat. More needs to be done.

@Yoieyoke @jusdcanneberge Nothing you said here isn't also true for the crops that are grown for livestock feed. Every calorie of meat eaten represents 6-28 calories of feed. So eating the same calories from plants means 6-28x less pesticides 6-28x less groundwater use 6-28x less labor

@Deve_Dy If a mass cultural revolution happened in which we all decided to collectively switch to plant-based protein but not change our farming practices. Then we would be eating beans harvested by slaves in the global South. This is in my opinion just as morally reprehensible

@Deve_Dy Then you have to figure out how to convince a mass amount of people to agree with replacing our protein sources. Just like we have to convince a mass amount of people to not be willing participants of a capitalistic system. Because at the end of the day capitalism is the issue.

It's true that raising vegetables and fruit still takes place under capitalism, which is why it is run through with cruelty and ecological impacts. Thankfully, animals raised for food do not need to eat, reducing the need for plant based agriculture instead of increasing it
lord farquad’s ex wife ✨@cachavaa

veganism is not inherently a morally superior position. the vegetables and fruits you consume are also harvested via immense cruelty & exploitation, not to even mention indigenous practices or food deserts. if you care about animals, the position to take is anti-capitalism.

@oystahboystah @jusdcanneberge Again, the argument is not that there aren't improvements to be made from converting to largely based diets, it's that it doesn't solve everything and a lot of people on here act like it does. I'm not saying we need one big solution, I'm saying we shouldn't stop at just one.

@Yoieyoke @jusdcanneberge So why wouldn’t we try and improve what we can by decreasing land usage instead if waiting till we have one big solution? Maybe I am misunderstanding, but from what I gather so say we might as well minimize what we can now and keep working towards more solutions, right?
