@PatrickET Matheson hasnt had a brain fart like that in a long time. Its absolutely brutal but I understand Marty not giving it to him. The puck bounced, but newhook made a bad play.

It’s irritating because Matheson is a legit top-4 D when it comes to positioning, skating, and defending. The problem is 99% of the goals against with him on the ice come from him trying to do way too much with the puck. He’s constantly overthinking himself into trouble.

Listen, I REALLY hope this is not the picture that haunts us for the next few months, but in a big 4 point game, this can’t happen. And if you think about it, the problem even starts earlier with Dobson pinching. Thought the Canadiens played well for large parts of that game, took control in the 1st, but in a game of such tight margins, you can’t afford to lose off dumb mistakes like this. Even the first goal, not a great play selection by Newhook. We’ve lost so many games because of defensive mistakes, this needs to be dealt with before the end of the season. Must win Saturday.

Montreal had a great 2025 Draft which is doing a lot of work here to keep them ranked high. Zharovsky is the biggest riser of all prospects this season. Mooney looks really promising with a strong freshman season. Pickford looks like a possible NHLer as an overager. Michael Hage remains a top prospect for the Habs, as well, after a great WJC and a strong NCAA year. The interesting thing to me is who the highest-rated defender is. Engstrom got some NHL games this season, and Reinbacher isn't making any large leaps in the AHL yet. #GoHabsGo
