Definitely NOT Fred Warner.

The Giants reportedly tried to trade for a veteran linebacker during the early start of free agency. From @JordanRaanan on his Breaking Blue podcast: "The Giants definitely did try to trade for a linebacker, I heard. And the story I heard was that said linebacker didn’t really want to go, and the trade kind of broke apart. It’s a guy that’s getting towards the end of his career, and it just didn’t work out." While the identity of the player wasn’t revealed, given the trade rumors that were circulating on social media around the time of the start of free agency, the veteran linebacker sure sounds like it was 49ers linebacker Fred Warner. Warner, who is considered one of the best middle linebackers in the sport, is 29 years old and coming off a season-ending ankle injury. The Giants ended up signing Tremaine Edmunds to a 3-year deal; Edmunds was initially put on the trade block by the Bears before he was released. The Giants are also thought of to potentially draft a linebacker early on in the 2026 NFL Draft; Ohio State’s Sonny Styles has been frequently mentioned for the Giants in mock drafts.

@LicensePlateGuy @obj He’s training in Arizona. The owners meetings are in Arizona I believe next week. He should try to meet with the Giants then, and I think he did that a few years ago with the ravens.

@Anthony_Rivardo No, i think Titans take edge at 4. Adam didn't even make sense. What is the difference between 4 and 5. He acts like you can take love at 5 but not at 4 😂

@Anthony_Rivardo So they better trade back and take Vega . Positional value factors heavy. And obtain more picks. Though not sure how they can pay for more. Maybe you can explain how the cost of more picks adds to the budget.

Giants' biggest needs with free agency winding down: 1. Right guard 2. Cornerback 3. Interior defensive line 4. Linebacker depth They need to sign a veteran who can start at RG and iDL. Has to happen. CB and LB can be addressed in the draft.

Calling it obtuse doesn't change the math. In 2025, the Bengals spent 44.7% of their cap on Burrow, Chase, and Higgins. The result? The 32nd ranked defense in the NFL. They gave up 30+ points a game because they couldn’t afford a pass rush or a secondary. That is the literal definition of paying receivers at the expense of the team. As for the Eagles, saying who cares about the bill is fine for a fan, but it's a disaster for a GM. Philly is currently carrying $130M in dead cap. They aren't rebounding, they are mortgaging the next five years. The Giants aren't 1 WR away from a ring, we are a deep roster away from being relevant. Using the 5th pick on a second WR1 when you have no Oline and no secondary isn't chasing a chip, it’s just copying the 6–11 Bengals.

This is the argument for the Giants to draft Carnell Tate at #5 Trading for a star WR costs the farm Elite WRs don’t become free agents and the good ones that do get over paid If the Giants want another star WR the cheapest/easiest way to do so is likely Tate at 5

Broncos are trading for Miami WR Jaylen Waddle, per source. Denver receives: Waddle and Dolphins’ 4th-round pick (11th in round) in this year’s draft. Miami receives: Broncos’ 1st round pick (30th overall) along with their late 3rd and 4th round picks (30th in each round) in this year’s draft.

Mel Kiper has the Giants take Caleb Downs at 5th overall in his latest mock -- obviously, Downs is a monster, I wouldn't be upset with this at all. It's a good feeling knowing the Giants could select several different players at 5, and I'd be pretty happy with it.
