No to Nigel Farage. No to intolerance, bigotry and hatred — and no to Reform’s Trumpian poison. All in Sunderland’s hands. Let’s hope they see sense and do the right thing. There should be ZERO association with that man at our club. #SAFC

Mike Dean on Soccer Saturday after the foul on Enzo Le Fee: "If that is normal contact, we might as well go home. It's just a penalty. It is not normal contact. It's a penalty all day." #SAFC

Tim Sherwood was an absolute disgrace last night in doubling down on his attack NOT analysis on Sesko’s improved second half performance. This is what’s wrong with football across the board on here and in punditry, there’s an inability and stubbornness among many who watch and cover this sport in holding their hands up and admitting they got something wrong. For Sherwood not to even acknowledge how good he was in the second half was the most pathetic thing I’ve ever seen on Sky.

🔴⚪️ Just catching up with the #SAFC highlights from last night. Understandably, the players looked a little fatigued - and even then, if the penalty goes in, that could have been a different game. 🕷️Every player can make a mistake - Enzo Le Fee has been brilliant so far this season for Sunderland and will take and score many more penalties. Good on him for owning it on socials last night - says everything you need to know about him as a class act. 💪 Regis Le Bris and the players will learn plenty from the Brentford defeat. Reinildo, Sadiki and Traore all potentially back from AFCON on Saturday which will be a big boost. Onto the next.

A panenka has the same chance of going in as any other penalty. A keeper dives in more than 90% of penalty situations, in a report by OPTA a couple years ago, in 22/23 95% of penalties down the middle went in and in 23/24 93.3% of penalties down the middle went in. A study done on 286 penalties across top 5 leagues one year showed only 2% of goalkeeper staying in the middle. Kelleher gets low and starts to dive then stands back up, it’s good keeping as much as it’s a silly decision to chip. Messi, Pirlo, Aguero, Ramos, Neymar. Just a few who’ve missed a panenka penalty in important games / moments. React and go again #SAFC

We were well on top. Le Fee put ego over club and I won’t hear any different. Fucking pathetic #SAFC

I love Enzo. But I’ve seen people sacked for less. That’s absolutely pathetic. Inexcusable.

Obviously the pen is a shocker but let's have it right - Enzo has run his backside off since the day he arrived. It's a bad decision in heat of moment to learn from. Someone has to take them. And Sunderland were completely outplayed for 85 minutes either side of it.

It's just fucking shite. Sloppy. Shite against spurs, shite again tonight. Adingra is honking, Rigg is literally a little boy and it's showing, absolutely terrible.

The absolute face of some Sunderland fans and their overreactions to yesterday is incredible by the way, and that’s coming from a Sunderland fan. 30 points by start of Jan was beyond anyone’s wildest dreams and they’re giving it the ‘horrendous’ shouts. Pathetic

Was it a penalty? Absolutely. But the victim mentality of the Newcastle fans is incredible. They talk about ‘’most blatant penalty they’ve ever seen’ but forget about this just 5 weeks ago.

That is about as clear a penalty as you will ever see. Not given. Gordon was completely wiped out at force #nufc

@lovetheturret I do think it’s a penalty. But it is so so much more contentious than the one you got away with against City

Let’s not pretend it’s about anything other than validating referees. If a ref *sees* something and makes a decision, very very rare it’s ever reviewed. Genuine case for a Garnacho sending off that isn’t even discussed because the penalty decision is so ludicrous
Bruce Millington@brucemillington

VAR spends ten minutes messing around with an offside decision that’s clearly onside then fails to award Newcastle one of the most blatant pens you’ll ever see. How are we still tolerating it?
