It is always great meeting with young people and university students to discuss their ideas, ambitions, and vision for the future. Their energy, creativity, and commitment to building stronger communities is inspiring. Our young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow, but they are also already helping shape the conversations and decisions of today. And that was clearly evident when I had a really insightful meeting with the @SUSKNational last week as they visited Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Our future is in bright!

It was a pleasure to host a meeting with @AlexChyczij, the national president of the @ukrcancongress, her team, and the @CUFCanada, last week on Parliament Hill. Canada has been a global leader in supporting Ukraine with more than $25.5 billion in aid and assistance since 2022. Under Prime Minister @MarkJCarney's leadership, Canada’s global leadership will continue. Canada supports Ukraine for two fundamental reasons: it is morally right, and it is essential to Canada’s own security. That’s because Ukrainians are fighting not only for their freedom and security, but they are also fighting for ours. Canada is unwavering in our support for Ukraine. We must stand with the people of Ukraine until they win, until we all win.

🇨🇦 Canada is building big — and the 🌎 world wants to build with us. Yesterday, Prime Minister @MarkJCarney announced the largest order for a Canadian-designed and Canadian produced aircraft in history and welcomed the agreement between Airbus and AirAsia to purchase 150 Airbus A220-300 aircraft. And these airplanes will be built by Canadian workers on Canadian factory floors. We are building a stronger economy with an ambitious plan to catalyze $1 trillion in total investment in Canada over the next five years. In the past year, we have signed 20 new economic and defence partnerships, secured nearly $100 billion in foreign investment commitments, and diversified trade across Europe and the Indo-Pacific.

I was so pleased to attend Martingrove CI’s 60th anniversary celebration on Saturday! Congratulations to the students, teachers, staff, alumni, and families of the Martingrove community on celebrating the high school’s diamond jubilee! For six decades, the high school has played an important role in shaping generations of students, fostering learning, leadership, and community spirit right here in #Etobicoke Centre. Thank you to all the teachers and staff, past and present, for your dedication, hard work, and commitment to supporting Martingrove’s students each and every day. Wishing the entire school community continued success for many years to come!

Canada's Building Trades Unions are helping to build Canada Strong. It was a pleasure to attend the @CDNTrades reception and connect with labour leaders and parliamentarians about the important role skilled trades workers play in building Canada. From housing and infrastructure to ports, shipbuilding, and critical projects across the country, unionized skilled trades workers are helping drive economic growth, strengthen communities, and build a more affordable and resilient Canada. Our government’s $6 billion investment in Team Canada Strong is a nationwide effort to recruit, train, and hire up to 100,000 new Red Seal trades workers over the next five years. This will help ensure Canada has the skilled workforce we need to deliver major projects, build more homes, and create good-paying union jobs across the country.

In yesterday’s Spring Economic Update, our new government, led by Prime Minister @MarkJCarney, announced an additional $2 billion to support Operation UNIFIER, Canada's mission to train the Armed Forces of Ukraine. I was proud to strongly advocate for this, and I am proud to see its implementation. In February, our government extended Operation UNIFIER. Under the renewed mandate, the number of Canadian Armed Forces @CanadianForces personnel dedicated to the operation will increase, providing greater flexibility and enabling Canada to further adapt and respond to Ukraine's evolving operational needs. To date, the CAF have trained over 47,000 members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, covering a range of basic and advanced military skills, including tactical medical training, combat engineering, and leadership skills and education. We must stop crime in our community and police are on the front lines of doing just that. I had a productive meeting today with Mike Harris and Ron Tait of the Toronto Police Association @TPAca, and Meaghan Gray, a constituent in #Etobicoke Centre, to learn more about what the federal and provincial governments must do alongside police to stop crime, keep folks in our community safe, and continue to support the police. I will keep working alongside all levels of government to reduce crime in our community.

Every year I hold this event to thank and recognize people who are serving others and making our community in Etobicoke Centre even better! Cet événement a réuni des parlementaires et des représentants de la communauté francophone de l’Ontario. Ce fut un événement formidable et une excellente occasion de renforcer nos liens avec la communauté franco-ontarienne. *** As the chair of the Official Languages Committee, I had the pleasure to joined the Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario at their reception on Parliament Hill as part of the “French-ment bon” event. The event brought together parliamentarians and representatives of Ontario's francophone community. It was a wonderful event and occasion to strengthen our ties with the Franco-Ontarian community.

Our new government is making unprecedented investments to make housing more affordable, by increasing the housing supply and bringing costs down. The average price of a home in Toronto declined 4.7% in the first quarter of 2026, according to Royal LePage's price survey and market forecast released yesterday. According to Royal LePage, housing prices in Toronto will continue to decline in the second quarter, as well. This continues the downward price trend of 2025, which saw the average home price in Toronto fall 5.1%. Today, Prime Minister @MarkJCarney announced that our new government is suspending the federal gas tax. This will save Canadians 10 cents a litre on gas. The gas tax suspension starts on April 20th and will be in effect until Labour Day. This is in addition to other measures we have brought in to bring costs down and put more money back in Canadians’ pockets: 👉 Eliminated the consumer carbon tax on day one. 👉 Cut income taxes for 22 million Canadians. 👉 The new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, providing up to $1,900 this year and $1,400 for the next four years for a family of four. 👉 Actions to make groceries more affordable. 👉 Cut taxes for first-time homebuyers. 👉 Launched Build Canada Homes to boost supply and bring down costs for all types of housing. 👉 Protected: dental care, OAS, $10-a-day child care, the Canada Child Benefit, and more. I will continue to do all I can to help ensure we bring costs down and make life more affordable.

Christ has Risen! Христос Bоскрес! Today, Eastern Rite Catholics and Orthodox Christians like my family and I mark Easter. Easter is normally a time of happiness, renewal, and faith, but the past few years have been a particularly difficult time for many Orthodox Christians and Eastern Rite Catholics as Russia continues its war on Ukraine. This Easter, let us keep in our hearts and our prayers the brave men and women who are fighting courageously for their freedom and remember that they are defending our security as well. Their fight is our fight. That is why we must support the Ukrainian people until they win – until we all win. I wish you and your family continued strength, courage and perseverance. Yesterday at my monthly Seniors’ Advisory Group meeting, Robert Jessup-Ramsay, the Community Outreach Liaison for the Dorothy Ley Hospice @dlhospice, gave a presentation about Hospice Care in #Etobicoke and answered questions from those in attendance. Thank you to everyone who joined us and took part in our meeting, including my dear friend Donna Cansfield, who is the Chair of the Dorothy Ley Hospice and our former MPP here in Etobicoke Centre. Our next Seniors’ Advisory Group meeting will be our annual Seniors’ Tea. Stay tuned for more information!
