@Storage_Venture @BizBrokerLee Seems like a tricky grey area because of the employee status…If the worker actually operates his own biz, is insured, and is truly a sub, the handyman loophole might work for small jobs like this…though I’m sure there’s more cases of getting screwed/true violations than not. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I googled “handyman man near me” Needed an outdoor TV mounted and hung (Before you make fun of me, I tore my shoulder labrum and can’t do it myself). I call this guy on Google - sounds like he’s 80 years old. Says he’ll have someone come over tomorrow and hang it for $100-$200. Cool. Some guy shows up, hangs it. I ask what I owe him and he says the 80 year old will send me an invoice. Now I’m curious. I ask what the relationship is between he and the old guy. He said the old guy gets him leads (and a bunch of other handyman all over the area) and takes half the pay. This old man is out there running Google ads taking half of every job and doing no work. I’m not sure this is even legal in California but he’s doing it and I think he’s crushing it.

@Storage_Venture @BizBrokerLee Did the guy show up in his own vehicle, his own tools, and roughly his own schedule? Jobs under $500 to avoid contractor license req? Sounds like it probably fits the scope of a CA 1099 situation to me…🤷🏼‍♂️

At my son's gymnastics class and it blows my mind that 90% of parents are playing pointless games like candy crush on their phone. Watch your kid. They'll look up every 10 seconds to see if you're watching them and they'll be disappointed when they realize you aren't.

I go outside with my toddler and she is enamored by every rock and tree and flower, meanwhile adults go outside and can’t be bothered to look up from their phone for more than 7 seconds

Potential customer called this morning Custy- how much for a warranty water heater replacement Me- $1000. That price includes all parts, labor, warranty paper work, us bringing the new water heater, haul off of the old one. Custy- it’s under warranty. It should be free Me- I’m sorry but the manufacturer warranty only covers the new water heater. It does not cover parts and labor. Custy- so why are you charging $1000? Just for labor? (Proceeds to lecture me about why I should not charge this price) Me- That price includes all parts, labor, warranty paper work, us bringing the new water heater, haul off of the old one. Custy- I had a whole water heater not under warranty replaced at a rental out of state for $800 Me- sorry I can’t even buy a water heater for $800… Custy- ok nevermind. Hangs up.
