Jaidon Anthony would be a good addition at Tottenham this summer. Not a headline name, and not a main signing, but a great squad player to add much needed depth. I rate him, and think he is ready to go to the next level. At 26 he’s not too young, and not too old. Thoughts?

As I have kept saying for what feels like years. The premier league is not the most competitive it’s ever been because of rise in quality. It’s the most competitive it’s ever been because of the lowering in standards at the top, the rising of standards of the bottom so you just have a fat middle of average where there’s actually hardly any special difference making quality. There are lots of reasons as to why this has happened. Increase in wealth across the board. Increase in ability for ‘smaller’ clubs to scout globally. The biggest reason is a massive decrease in the quality of individual coaching from young, so you just get a factory of players who are basically the same product. And it is exactly why, over the next few years, if a major club are not smart with their planning and recruitment, they can 100% finish way below than they’re expected to. Possible relegation even if it’s so bad. Because the levels are not big enough now to truly stand out against incompetence. It has never been more important for football clubs to be intelligent and forward thinking with their processes and structure. The top level players available to you aren’t as good anymore (ironically it’s largely because of how you’ve coached them all as people and players from young so it’s still your fault largely) and the level of players lower down has gone up, so the gap is much thinner, incompetency can really put you in trouble. And no one is exempt from it.
