"The common denominator is talent density. Also, life is path dependent. The amateur version of path dependency says that just by deciding to go from point A to point B, you increase the probability. So I don't believe in backup planning because I think by just admitting that, you've decreased the probabilities of success. And it's very much an Elon school of thought, but it has consequences all the way down to almost every decision." @rabois on decision making and other lessons learned from five companies. youtu.be/oSZnLUrtp58

Since we apparently still can’t build the tech needed to have a cell phone conversation without drops while driving, could someone please build the LLM+voice synthesis solution to interpolate all the dropped words? Imagine if that were built into the phone? Would be pretty great

3. He then gives you his magic formula for investing excellence. Finally, after all these years, the good stuff: Buy great companies that can deploy capital at high returns run by great people. Lol. So Simple! 😅

@patriciawexler @vkhosla Yes but why can’t we skip train tech and jump to autonomous EVs (incl. mass volume) on dedicated infrastructure (eg: separate lanes)? Transit time 2x slower but build time 10x faster & cheaper. Plus: trains just not politically realistic

@vkhosla The most important benefit of high speed rail is displacing short haul air travel

@vkhosla 💯 agree. I wish more well intentioned people saw this as well. x.com/zackwynegar/st…

@kerooke @vkhosla I think dedicated lanes/roads for high volume autonomous EVs is a start. Pros: 1) quick/short execution cycles 2) build as needed 3) mutable infra vs fixed rails 4) support variety of vehicles 5) can leverage existing infra 6) resilient to EV/autonomous vehicle innovation

@vkhosla What systems would you invest in if you were deploying $66 billion on new public transit ideas?

@vkhosla 💯. Starting a decade+ rail investment is bad considering the rapid innovation in transit & the fact the US execution ability on large infra projects has attrited. We should skip rail and embrace next gen transit solutions. It’s sad that so few well intentioned people see this

@mehran__jalali GPT 3 data fills are very bad past superficial, popular data. It loves to invent new seemingly realistic data, even with prompts that explicitly say otherwise (dangerous!) Eg: It made up a list of hotels in attached image

I spent the last 2 weeks building the ultimate AI assistant for spreadsheets. It can: - Autofill entire sheets just based off context - Generate formulas and filter rows using text commands - Directly integrate GPT-3 into your sheets And more… Here are a few examples: (1/8)

@BiasedRational @AkshatRathi Fukushima generates 5 GW of energy, so you should be comparing 5 GW of solar replacement, which is $5 Bn, so you could replace Fukushima 40x over with solar at todays prices on the (estimated) total cleanup costs

@AkshatRathi That is not really a fair comparison, what would be the result of 200 GW of solar power being hit by an 11m tsunami?

The cost of the clean up tied to the Fukushima nuclear disaster is currently estimated to be $200 billion. 😑 That's enough to build 200 GW of solar power today. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
