STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS PROFESSOR SEGUN AINA AS NEW JAMB REGISTRAR President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose two-term tenure expires on July 31, 2026. Professor Aina, who will be 40 in July, is a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He has also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School. A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service, gaining foundational experience in national admissions and data-driven institutional processes. These insights have shaped his ongoing contributions to examination reform and systems optimisation. With over 15 years of post-graduation experience, Professor Aina operates at the intersection of technology, policy, and institutional transformation, advising federal and state governments on system design, digital transition, and operational reform. At 39, he became one of Nigeria's youngest Computer Engineering professors and will now make history as JAMB’s youngest registrar. He has served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including NECO, NABTEB, and various State Ministries of Education, providing expertise on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation. Professor Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring to bear his vast experience, knowledge and practical insight into the operations of the Board, to take the critical educational organisation beyond the laudable heights achieved by his predecessor. Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy) May 21, 2026 .

@ChuksEricE First thing first, collect his gun. Don't let him have access to any gun in this life again. Let him undergo a thorough psyche evaluation. Then, remove him from operations, and put him behind a desk. For putting the image of the police in disrepute, demote him and dock his pay.

Beyond the call to apprehend this police officer, which I believe is the right call, can we take a minute to pause and address the root cause of this problem? He identified and lamented over the worsened state of the welfare of policemen and poor salaries. What is being done to address it?

How NDLEA (@ndlea_nigeria) busted the biggest clandestine methamphetamine lab ever discovered in Nigeria in a remote forest in Ogun State to arrest international drug criminals with drugs worth over N480billion. On Saturday, 16th May 2026, NDLEA Elite operatives of the SOU, acting on credible intelligence, launched a well-coordinated, simultaneous strikes in both Ogun and Lagos States. The primary target was a remote farm located at Abidagba forest, in Ijebu East LGA of Ogun State. This farm was being used as a massive, highly dangerous clandestine methamphetamine laboratory (yes, that one in the Breaking Bad series) by the Anochili Innocent Drug Trafficking Organization. At the farm in the remote Ijebu forest, NDLEA operatives overran the clandestine laboratory, they secured the perimeter and caught the syndicates completely off-guard. At the laboratory, 7 key members of the cartel processing illicit substances were apprehended. Among those arrested were 3 Mexican drugs experts: Martinez Felix Nemecto, 46; Jesus López Valles, 40; and Torrero Juan Carlos, 51. They were were brought into the country specifically to cook methamphetamine. Also arrested alongside them were 4 Nigerian collaborators-: Nwankwo Sunday Christian, 41; Igwe Abuchi Remijus, 42; Ifeanyichukwu Chibuike Joshua, 23; and Egwuonwu Uchenna Victor, 38. Simultaneously, another tactical team closed in on the mastermind’s luxury fortress at No. 8 Tafawa Balewa Street, Golf Estate, Lakowe, Lekki area of Lagos State—the residence of the drug baron, Anochili Innocent. The drug baron was cornered and arrested. A detailed search of his premises led to the recovery of the international passports and mobile phones of the three arrested Mexican cooks, directly linking him to the importation and management of the foreign criminals. On Monday 18th May 2026, NDLEA operatives stormed another property owned by the baron at House 70, Close 3, Mayfair Estate, Lakowe, Lekki, Lagos where another key member of the syndicate, Kingsley Orike Omonughwa, 44, was arrested after which investigators stormed the residence of another syndicate member, Emeka Nwobum, whose property served as the cartel's strategic stash house. The operation brought the total number of arrested suspected cartel members to 10, including the baron, the three Mexican specialists, and six Nigerian collaborators, who are currently in NDLEA custody. The operation yielded a massive 2,419.48 kilograms (over 2.4 tons) of chemical materials, including highly toxic, volatile, and crystallized methamphetamine worth $362,922,000.00 in the international market. This translates to over N480billion. The network did not just traffic drugs; they were actively manufacturing industrial-scale quantities of highly lethal illicit substances right on our soil, threatening the national security and public health of Nigeria.

This one is trying to set-up and force the hand of the president, again allowing this man who is a non-state actor to control or operate in Nigeria is never a good idea, our security forces, if he is so keen in solving security problems, let him work with security agencies. We don't want another Nnamdi Kanu 2.0 in Nigeria.
