Within two months, three people are arrested by the KZN Hawks - including a suspected Mozambican kidnapping kingpin and a border police officer. But, in January this year, the State drops all charges - and they walk free. Desai is released the following month. The Mzwakhe Mbuli robbery story will always be hilarious to me. I was only 7 years old when he was convicted and jailed for armed robbery, so I hadn’t known about it or the facts. Fast forward to 2004, and he’s freed after serving 7 years in prison. He releases an album, Mbulism, soon after that, and my dad gets the cassette. In it, he is proclaiming his innocence in some very big English, and I’m like oh shame man, poor guy. Then I read the case, and I’m like haaaaaayi man iyaxoka le grootman! They found him with hand grenades and floor plans of the bank, the bank ank nk! 😂😂😂
