Check these out. Same $1m mortgage at 6.5% (to make it easy), courtesy of @Canstar. 30 years: $6,321/mth, total interest $1.275m. 40 years: $5,855/mth, "saving" $480/mth... ... and costing *half a million dollars more* over the life of the loan. The govt *must* say no. 2/2

Something I've commented on before, but bears repeating as/when the banks try to keep the gravy train rolling. Banks will try to extend mortgage terms to 35, 40 and 50 years under the guise of 'affordability'. It would be quite literally the opposite! It'd cost a fortune! 1/2
