In May 2022, while the world watched Mariupol burn, a wedding took place inside the ruins of Azovstal.
No white dress.
No guests.
No music.
No flowers.
And no guarantee that either of them would still be alive the next day.
Yuliia and Oleksandr, two Azov fighters known by the call signs "Yula" and "Zyat," got married in a city surrounded by Russian troops and reduced to rubble by constant shelling.
Instead of a wedding ring from a jewelry store, they used a ring made from a grenade pin.
It sounds like a scene from a movie.
But it wasn't.
It was their reality.
Above them, bombs and artillery pounded the city.
Around them, civilians hid underground.
Food, water, and medicine were running out.
Every sunrise could have been the last.
And yet, in the middle of all that darkness, they chose love.
They chose each other.
That is probably why their story touched so many people around the world.
Because when everything around them was falling apart, they refused to let hope die.
After the defenders of Azovstal were ordered to leave the plant, both Yuliia and Oleksandr were taken into Russian captivity.
Nobody knew if they would ever see each other again.
For many Mariupol defenders, captivity became another battlefield — months of isolation, uncertainty, fear, and endless waiting.
But their story did not end there.
In September 2022, Oleksandr was released and returned home.
Then, on New Year's Eve, December 31, Yuliia finally came back as well.
After months apart, after everything they had survived, they found each other again.
And maybe that's what makes this story so powerful.
War is often reduced to numbers.
Missiles fired.
Battles fought.
Casualties counted.
But war is really about people.
About those who stand and fight.
About those who wait.
About those who somehow find the strength to keep going when everything tells them to give up.
The wedding at Azovstal became one of the defining symbols of Mariupol's defense.
Not because it was romantic.
But because it showed the stubborn, unbreakable spirit of the people defending Ukraine.
In a fortress of concrete, fire, and steel, two young people sent a message to the world:
You can surround us. You can bombard us. You can try to destroy us. But you cannot take away the reason we live.
And that is why, years later, this story still moves people to tears.
Because sometimes love really is stronger than war. 🇺🇦❤️

Two years ago today, social media was flooded with a photograph that touched millions of hearts: a thin young woman with remarkably deep eyes smiling for the first time in a long while, wrapped in a Ukrainian flag.
She was Mariana Checheliuk, a 24-year-old police officer from Mariupol. On May 31, 2024, she finally returned home as part of a major prisoner exchange.
Her story is one of extraordinary strength and resilience. Here are just a few facts worth remembering:
The hell of Azovstal: At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Mariana and her younger sister sheltered from Russian shelling in the basements of the Azovstal plant.
Captivity: During the evacuation of civilians through a humanitarian corridor, the sisters were separated. Her younger sister was eventually reunited with their parents, while Mariana was sent to a filtration camp in Bezimenne and later transferred to Olenivka, as well as prisons in Taganrog and Kamyshin.
728 days in captivity: Mariana spent exactly two years imprisoned. Her captors reportedly tried to break her spirit, offering her a different citizenship and threatening her with a lengthy prison sentence. She refused to betray her oath or her country.
The cost of freedom: Two years of imprisonment, hunger, and isolation severely damaged her health. She returned home suffering from chronic bronchitis, exhaustion, and serious leg problems.
> “I believed I would return home, even though they constantly told us that Ukraine no longer existed,” Mariana later recalled.
Today marks two years since her release. Since then, Mariana has undergone a long process of rehabilitation and recovery.
This day is more than just a date on the calendar. It is a reminder of the terrible price many Ukrainians have paid and of the need to continue fighting for everyone who remains in Russian captivity.
We remember. We honor. We wait for them all to come home.

Dürüst olalım artık herkes bu yönetimle başarılı olamayacağımıza hemfikir.
Seçim kararı alınmalı aksi takdirde Beşiktaş'ın önümüzdeki sezonu mahvolacak. Koca sezonu taraftara zehir etmeye hakkınız yok.
