@RossMcCaff We seem to ignore the alignment of the planets as well. Probably we ignore both these things as they are both irrelevant to the causes of violent racial hatred.

Well, that's certainly one way to for the Green Party in one of the UK's largest cities to respond to a series of attacks against the Jewish community, of which Wednesday's stabbing attack was just the latest. Not even pretending it's about Israel now, are they?

Back at hospital today & all is going well. @GME_1970 has been a good nurse! Treatment switched & back to work in a couple of weeks. Thanks to all who wished us well, it's been a very tough time but onwards & upwards now. We celebrated down the beach as usual.

I resigned as U.S. Ambassador Ukraine when Trump kept siding with Putin over our democratic partner. Now, my successor is doing the same. I knew I had to speak out and run for office because siding with dictators is just not who we are.
Amy Mackinnon@ak_mack

Scoop: Julie Davis, the acting US Ambassador in Kyiv, is leaving the State Department having grown frustrated with Trump's dwindling support for Ukraine. Davis's resignation follows that of her predecessor, Bridget Brink, who resigned for similar reasons early last year. W/@christopherjm  as.ft.com/r/1781e555-fad…

I've got nothing against King Charles personally—in fact, he seems like a decent and thoughtful man—but why the heck are we inviting the 77-year-old monarch of a medium-sized nation that committed something close to national suicide with Brexit to address a joint session of Congress? "Of more worth is one honest man to society," wrote Thomas Paine, "than all the crowned ruffians that ever lived." We are the nation that threw off a crowned ruffian and ended hereditary privilege to create a republic where the people rule. Happy 250th Birthday America.

“Many of our policy makers and much of civil society, inspired by the success in Northern Ireland, believe that all wars and terrorism can be stopped by clever conflict-resolution discussion and compromise, forgetting that violent actors such as the IRA only come to the talking table when their paramilitary capability is rendered ineffective by the actions of a military that is trained to fight and die for its citizens.” “So much of the current criticism of the SAS’s actions of the past stems from this mistaken belief that peace and security can be achieved and maintained without fighting and sacrifice, and that those, like the SAS, that do the fighting, killing and dying on behalf of society are somehow out-of-date, illegal dinosaurs. And this is the most dangerous fiction of all.” telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/04/2…

Hands Off the Falklands, Donald Nothing says “leader of the free world” quite like threatening Britain’s closest ally status by flirting with Argentina’s claim to the Falklands because London would not salute every foreign-policy whim on command. Reports that Washington reviewed support for Argentine sovereignty claims as leverage against the UK should outrage anyone who still believes alliances are built on principle rather than tantrums. The Falklands are British because the islanders overwhelmingly chose to remain British. In 2013, 99.8 per cent voted to stay a British Overseas Territory. That is called self-determination — unless, apparently, it becomes inconvenient. Even Sir Keir Starmer, hardly known as a chest-thumping imperial romantic, had to state the obvious: sovereignty rests with the UK and the islanders’ wishes are paramount. Quite right too. Veterans were blunter. They called it bullying. Fair description. Men fought and died in 1982 to defend those islands from invasion. Many still carry the scars. To use their sacrifice as a bargaining chip in some diplomatic sulk is not strategic genius. It is graceless politics. And what exactly is the message here? Support every American military venture or Washington may suddenly rediscover sympathy for rival territorial claims? Charming. One imagines allies across Europe sleeping much easier. The irony is rich. America lectures the world on democracy, then toys with disregarding the clear democratic will of Falkland Islanders because Downing Street was insufficiently enthusiastic elsewhere. The Falklands are not a poker chip, not a punishment tool, and certainly not a stage prop for anyone’s ego. They are home to British people who made their choice. Hands off the Falklands. Some things are not negotiable.

If your dislike of Keir Starmer leads you to support attempts by a foreign government to decouple Britain from the Falklands - over which we have had sovereignty for over 200 years, and for which 255 of our servicemen gave their lives 44 years ago - you really are no patriot.
